got a communication from ancestry today. Did anyone else??

Dear Sylvia,

Our system shows that you logged in to Ancestry.co.uk on Wednesday, May 19th, so you’re probably aware that we experienced a technical issue with our family trees system that day.

We have now resolved the issue and we are sorry for any inconvenience it may have caused you. The family tree system is now back to normal and ready for you to use.

As a small gesture of our appreciation for your patience and understanding, we're adding one day to your subscription length. This change will take effect over the next few days.

Thank you for your continuing membership.

Kind regards,
The Ancestry.co.uk Team

It's only one day ........ but then I hadn't actually bee looking at my trees that day :)))))

Going out for coffee in a couple of minutes

Jolly hot here today! Whew! At least it's a lot cooler and more pleasant now.

Went mad today and bought a new mobile phone. £9.99. Well, I only use it for emergencies etc. Daughter is patiently working through it with me. Bless.

Haven't decided who I will be next week as yet. Frank is bound to suggest someone like Attila the Hun or Boadica - I'm just waiting for that.

I haven't had that message Sylvia - you must be special. Well, we know you are.

Off for a gentle browse whilst watching tv. Night friends.

Now then Geno me and my OH are deleriously happy together.......... she's usually delerious and I'm happy!

I'd just like to thank all of the English type people for their apologies with regard to any perceived Scottish inadequacies.
While I do admit that some of our kinfolk may appear a bit broad, Robert & I do originate from better stock and are well versed in understanding our English cousins although the marbles and plums do sometimes cause problems....... thank goodness for google!
As far as "tightness" is concerned, we in the west have always been regarded as most hospitable whereas eastern types were reputed to overdo the "ye'll huv had yer tea then" type of mentallity ;))
I'm sure Robert would be most welcoming.

Susan, the last time my OH was getting wooed in the forrest, I was with her....... just you be careful out there!!

Just finished watching "The fellowship of the ring" and the dwarf Gimli, son of Gloin speaks with the most amazing Scottish accent..........he says it's Welsh.
Over to Reece...........

Kiwibird Report 23 May 2010 07:53

Hi Everyone.

Frank have you watched all 3 movies in the Lord of the Rings Trilogy? A lot of the scenes were filmed not far from where I live. And my daughter has a friend who made the swords used in the movies.

Hope everyone has got their famous person sorted and are ready to PARTY !!

I was able to get back into the LDS Site yesterday and have made considerable progress from the IGI Records sorting out my Riley Ancestors
who were very considerate and stayed in the same place for around a 120 years and helpfully married into my Birtwistle family who were also living in the same area of Lancashire.

I hear that there has been problems with Ancestry. I am finding them to be quite annoying I originally registered with Ancestry.com then later with A ancestry.co.uk then a couple of years later with Ancestry.co.au.

I created a small tree on the original site around My Riley Family as well as on the same site I am editor on a large family tree that contains my husband's family.
The most annoying thing is that I can no longer go to Ancestry .com as it will automatically open up in the Australian version, and when I go to my tree I am told I don't have access and must subscribe. I think it is a case of having to log in and out each time I want to go there which is a real hassle.

I read in a thread on the General board about a month ago about some people having 30,000 people in their tree. I thought my tree was big at nearly 5,000 and that includes both sides of my Husbands tree as well.

But I noted that a guy on this site who I am in contact with, a distant cousin of my husband's had just uploaded a new gedcom file and has 99,000 people in it. The annoying thing is that he has mistakes in my Husband's line and even though I have pointed these out he has done nothing to correct them. I find it very hard to believe he has done any of his own research.! more like helped himself to other peoples trees.

Sorry, hope I have not bored you all to tears with my gripes.

Will start thinking positively as I prepare my clues for the Party.
Catch you all later Josie

Visiting your thread at suggestion of Sylvia. Interesting chat. Not going to mention night attire - I promise - oh my I just did.

Will throw in this one for a comment. Heard on Sky Newspaper review this morning that Mark Twain (100 years ago) said a Banker was a man who would lend you his umbrella when the sun was shining but take it away when it rains. As true today as it was then wouldn't you say!

Jeanie
Happy to be "one of the small coterie of people" who nudge them up!

Cynthia

Cynthia Report 23 May 2010 10:09

Well, good morning Jeanie and nice to welcome you on board. You don't have to be mad to be part of this thread - but it helps. Good for Mark Twain - so true.

Oh yes, we hail from around the globe including Scotland but we won't hold that against anyone. Robert is a lovely man who lives in a shell.

Reece, what a lovely little snippet that was. You're really fortunate to have something like that in your 'archives'.

Sue, there are tree collectors who seem to just want to be in the numbers gain. I can't be doing with them at all. I had an email a couple of years ago from some who has part of my family in their tree - he had over 30,000. He didn't know anything about them - so he's welcome to it - I'm not interested.

Lord of the Rings? OH and daughter love that sort of thing - bores me to tears. Sorry Frank but I am sure you will understand.

Right, off now but back later. Enjoy your day folks. Cx

Hi Everyone

Just got home from the forest again.

We got a very nice load of wood today and we have missed the rain .

It has just started raining again just as we got home,I am drawing a nice hot bath at present and I am so looking forward to getting in it, a few sore bones today .
Nearly 60 and I can still swing an axe or block spitter as we call it .

Still don't know what to call myself for your party yet Cynthia,I might need to have a good think on that one.

Sylvia I got the same message from Ancestry, they also gave me an extra Month when I upgraded to Heritage Plus.

It does give you a lot of extra records to seach, some of my dads line go way back to 1770 all in London so for me I use it heaps.
It also comes in handy to help out on the boards.

Well I am off to the bath.
Drop in later

Frank, Frank, Frank,

It is bad enough getting insults from the English/Welsh/New Zealanders/Australians et all without getting from you.
When I worked in Glasgow, I loved Glasgow and the Glaswegians, but not any more.
I even loved the Glasgow football crowds and that is saying something!!

Sorry, I forgot to mention the Canadians.

Come on Cynthia,

Lord of the Rings is just Harry Potter with a few swords etc thrown in...........brilliant.

I've watched all six Harry Potters (only one left to see) and all three Lord of the rings and thoroughly enjoyed them all.

Glad to see you emerged safely from the forest Susan and I don't suppose you bumped into the wee red haired Gimli, son of Gloin who sounds and looks just like one of our Scottish country men.
He's got an axe to grind as well so you two would get on well together.!

Today is all about gutting the house as m-i-law is coming through next weekend for the baby shower........blehhh.
I mean the shower, not my mother-in-law who is lovely.

I'm just not a people person so all these large congregations really throw me...........perhaps I could borrow Robert's shell ;)

Cynthia

Cynthia Report 23 May 2010 16:28

Nah....give me a detective any time - all that fantasy stuff leaves me cold. Must be a realist at heart I suppose.

Hey Jeanie, it doesn't mean all your ancesters were mad you know...they could have been soldiers or sailors who were often classed as being in institutions. I thought the same as you until I saw a transcript. Boy, was I relieved!

I still haven't had a message from Ancestry Sylvia so am feeling quite put out ... lol

When you go down to the woods today, you're sure of a big surprise...because there is our Sue chopping wood. Good for you Sue - show those men what we are made of.

Josie, what part of Lancashire are your rellies from? I live in Lancashire and don't forget, our Sylvia is a Lancashire lassie even though she is far, far away now.

Just been out for an ice cream with my daughter followed by a stroll round my favourite country churchyard reading all the old inscriptions. Perfect afternoon for it....sunny, breezy, peaceful. mmmmm.

Off for a browse and to get some messages sent out.

Hello Everyone,
Robert dont forget the Channel Islands.
Cynthia I have my thinking cap on trying to sort out who to be for the party, I think I will be a member of the opposite sex, though havent finally decided yet.
What would you like me to bring to the party, which airport will I fly to?
The weather here is wonderful today, warm and sunny but with a nice breeze which helps to keep us cool.
I havent seen any HP or L of T R pictures and really dont think they would appeal to me at all but good luck to all that enjoy them.
Glad you are keeping the boys in order Cynthia,do you think they will both wear kilts to your party?
As I like to eat I had better start cooking our evening meal so cheerio everyone, love to you all.

Frank.... are you calling me nice things now....aw I like it.

Hope you are thinking about your character for next week - Rob Roy etc.etc. would be a bit of a giveaway for you - fool us with something special! I am sure you will survive the baby shower - there must be something you need to be doing in another room...decorating?

Venerable Robert, I do still hope you will emerge from your shell for just a little while. You can sit quietly with Frank and watch the rest of us.

Hi Evelyn, I always think of you when I hear about the CI these days. Please bring whatever you would like to the party and you can either land at Manchester or Liverpool depending on volcanic ash weather!!

Well, got all today's messages sent out. I have now decided not to send them to people who are asking for look ups on the reasoning that if they know how to ask for a look up then they must have a fair idea on how to reply. I just send to those who look as though they are new to the boards. Anyway, lots of friendly replies lately which is heartening.

Now, is it tea time or ....... a sandwich maybe.

Depends what you dream of Frank!!!!!!!!

What an exciting thread we have

Welcome Jeanie - do join in - we only accept those who are a bit barmy here.

Frank you cannot join Robert in his shell - we can't have two of you in a shell together - what would everyone think

Susan - very energetic

Evelyn - nice to see you back & that goes for Catherine as well

Looks like the party is going to be a biggie Cynthia - have you ordered the Marquee yet?

Lovely day here - we were tiding the garden - OH needed to take his frustrations from yesterday out on the weeds - well it was better than taking it out of me. You should have heard us in the car on the way home - cross was not the word.

His mum has decided to re-write her will & proceeded to tell us what was in it as hse didn't want any agro afer she was gone - well we were speechless - then we fumed siliently until we were on our way home in the car. I have never know a family like it - very unbelieveable thats all I can say. OH is contemplating contesting the will when the time comes - thats if it all goes that way. OH Joy

Well must go as need to get dinner sorted.

Whens the shower Frank - does it clash with Cynthia's party?

Take care all - will try & pop in tomorrow - I haven't heard from Ancestry either

I know you mean well but I'm talking about the ones I actually knew in reality. Mostly Alzheimers but also one nervous breakdown. In the past I've found 2 naughty boys - one on each side of the family - as well as 2 in Institutions - again one on each side - because they were in the military. Gotta take the good with the bad.

Think I'd best keep my lips buttoned on the Scottish question. OH Scottish but I divorced him years ago:-)))

Cheers

Hi all

Oy Robert ................... this Canadian hasn't insulted you!***

You are maligning me.

Nice to see you on here Jeanie

They're a pretty good group ................... once you get to know them!

Not only are we from all around the world, but we have a great range in age as well.

I've read all the HP books, except have not yet finished the last one. I've seen one HP movie .............. on tv.

I've read the whole Lord of the Rings trilogy .......... Oh gave me a hard back set many many years ago, and I decided I'd better read it about 15 years after he gave it to me :))

I have not seen any of the movies.

It's raining here, on and off, and it is cold ........... I've got the heating on in the house, and I'm wearing a long sleeved high necked top..

It is, of course, a Holiday Weekend
