If it has got Select in the title then why would you think it's all of them?

I have only just realised that the Scottish Births found on Ancestry have been taken directly from Family Search!

Yesterday, I noticed that a child in my family was registered twice.
I have both of the original documents.
The birth was registered in JOHNSTONE Renfrewshire by the father.
As the family were domicilled outside the area, ( birth took place in a railway station) the Renfrewshire registrar passed the info to Glasgow where the registrar there created a 2nd birth cert and transcribed it onto High Church, Glasgow records.
Therefore a single birth was reigistered in both Johnstone and Glasgow

According to Family Search these, births were registered in PAISLEY and High Church, Glasgow.
Odd that Ancestry has exactly the same error, ( Paisley, Abbey rather than Johnstone) and showing exactly the same film number!

I have checked on Scotlands People and this birth does not appear in the Paisley records.

This is an example of what came up when I searched for Ian MacDonald b 1946:

Scotland, Select Births and Baptisms, 1564-1950
about Jane Macdonald

Name:Jane Macdonald
Gender:Female
Spouse: David Greig
Child: Ann Greig

No dates and place - not really much use

Economical with the truth - posting the full title of the records, but not qualifying the statement by indicating what they are actually providing

From Family Search

Scotland, Births and Baptisms, 1564-1950
Description
Index to selected Scotland births and baptisms. Only a few localities are included and the time period varies by locality. Due to privacy laws, recent records may not be displayed. The year range represents most of the records. A few records may be earlier or later.

Record Description
This index is an electronic index for the years 1564 to 1955. It is not necessarily intended to index any specific set of records. This index is not complete for any particular place or region. This collection may include information previously published in the International Genealogical Index or Vital Records Index collections.

95% of this collection consists of pre 1875 records. Most of the remaing 5% are pre 1910. There are no Scotland indexing projects currently, so this collection is not expected to change in the foreseeable future.

The index, Scotland Births and Baptisms, 1564-1955, is to be used as a tool to locate and view the original documents. The documents or records record more than what is found in the index.

95% of the names indexed within this collection are:

Pre 1855 Church of Scotland Records
Civil Registration 1855 to 1875
5% of the names indexed with in this collection are:

Church of Scotland post 1855
Denominations other than the Church of Scotland
The primary record classes, pre 1855 Church of Scotland and Civil Registration 1855 to 1875 are not to be considered complete; though, a high percentage of the records are in the index. (95% to 98%)

So it's sounds like Family Search and Ancestry are being a bit cheeky ;-) in the title of these records as on first look you would think all the birth records are there up until 1950.

I doubt if Ancestry would have births within the last 100 years as you can not view them on Scotlandspeople but it is what is says on the database
