Hi in the 1901 census george chapman age 44yrs widower is living in the aukland area with children robert 10,george 4, hilda 8, hannah 6, olive 2 and harriet gray 30 general servant. Go to the 1911 census and George is 50yrs with the same family only now Herriet is his wife of 21yrs. I have found the marraige for them 1890 so why did they lie. |

It is a bit unusual I must say - she is clearly under maiden name 1901 though the transcriber has mistakenly put Chapman. How strange. |

Both families in 1901, so not the same man (mind you both George's born Hornby and miners - hmm...) |

Hi this would be exciting, but on a miners wage and also isnt one born thirsk the other hornby. I wonder why he added 4 yrs to his age on the 1901 census. mags |
