Hi everyone, I've got a brick wall with a common surname, don't you just love those ones!

I am looking for information about John H Griffiths born somewhere about 1900.

He married Mary Elizabeth Langridge in 1928 in Liverpool.

I only know of one son they had although there could have been more.
Their son was John Francis Griffiths, Birth 26 Nov 1935 in Liverpool, Lancashire, England, Death Jul 1990 in Halton, Cheshire, England

Can anyone help with finding info on John H Griffiths please?

Do you have the marriage cert with his father's name and occupation?

Astra

Astra Report 22 Jan 2011 10:02

Purchasing this will give you his father's name and occupation. It is also possible that they had 2 more children apart from John Francis

No, we just found the record and it matches the details we know. I tried looking for the wedding record, I mean not the free BMD one but couldn't see it on ancestry. Is there a way to find if you know the BMD one?

The living son of the younger John Griffiths said there are more people to add but I can't remember if he meant his siblings or his fathers siblings so I have sent him a message to add the details on a shared ancestry private tree.

He definitely didn't know any more about his grandparents though apart from names and the approx marriage, poss from a photo.

Do you know if Griffiths is mainly a welsh name, as the family were in Liverpool area.

Thanks Astra, w
I hadn't hit refresh as going back and forwards between this and ancestry. You lot are far too quick for me. Still amazes me how quickly you all find possibilities!

I use ancestry and the BMD site but are there any others that are useful that you recommend as I have 4 trees on the go and sometimes they do get a bit tricky.

After looking up the 1911 census giving Mary's possible parents, I tried to find a marriage and got the surname of Rose as being Dagnall.

Now we definately have the surname Dagnall somewhere in the tree but thought it was connected to the other side of the family but could not make the connection! Coincidence of being in the same area or had we just plainly got the facts wrong...

thank you Eileen. Finding the Langridge side has been a massive leg up so thanks to all for the help.

Still stuck on John H Griffiths but may have to fork out some cash on that one... I guess the marriage cert is my answer as Griffiths is a common name.

Hi all, I have a few more details on John H griffiths.

He was born in 1906 on Toxeth and his full name was John Henry Griffiths. Can anyone help me find him on any cencus records as I can find his birth, but cannot find a christenning on ancestry to get parents names.

Apart from buying the certificate is there a way to check any possiblities as ancestry is giving nothing! Can't afford to buy the certificate right now as alreadt splashed out recently on other things.

Have I seen another thread on this Family today?

to answer your question

he may have married in liverpool but that does not mean he was born liverpool.

in fact there was a lot of migration from wales to birkenhead and liverpool. there was an excellent ferry service.

i have griffiths in llanasa who flitted between there and widness.

There is a birth that matches on FreeBMD for Toxteth in the right year but in 1911 some possibles are just listed as born in Liverpool or the age is out. There is no clear match.

Honestly it would be complete guesswork without the marriage certificate

you have LK. This one

hope you are recovering well and now managing to type with more than one finger

Lancashire Marriage indexes for the years: 1928
Surname Forename(s) Surname Forename(s) Church / Register Office Registers At Reference
GRIFFITHS John H LANGRIDGE Mary E Liverpool, Register Office or Registrar Attended Liverpool REG_LP/389/24

this shows it was either a non-CofE marriage or a registry office one, so probably the only way you will find the details is to buy the certificate (£9.25 from GRO)

Hi ladykira I have only just started this tree and am struggling to get the initial starting facts as only vague bits are known. Not very useful when trying to research!

The tree isn't mine but since I have the paid ancestry then I agreed to help get it started but was surprised how difficult it was after having so much success of my own tree!

We do believe the Griffiths were from Wales so there may well be a link just not got that far yet.

Anyway hope you are feeling better soon. Doesn't sound very nice but hopefully you can relax a bit whilst off and recover soon.
