Very frustrating. I had a post almost finished and it disappeared and the Add link stopped working ...

First I had to figure out where Tipton was by finding George's birth: George William Hyde.

Births Jun 1908
Hyde Florence Jane Dudley 6c 67
Deaths Mar 1908
HYDE Florence Jane 0 Dudley 6c 51
- likely same child, birth registered late

Births Dec 1909 (could have been as early as September)
HYDE Frederick Dudley 6c 56
HYDE Grace Dudley 6c 36
Deaths Dec 1909
HYDE Grace 0 Dudley 6c 19
Deaths Mar 1910
HYDE Frederick 0 Dudley 6c 42

Can probably rule out:

Births Dec 1906
Hyde Ethel Dudley 6c 84
Deaths Sep 1908
Hyde Ethel 1 Dudley 6c 25

Can't find a birth, if died immediately afterward probably not registered:

Deaths Sep 1909
HYDE Mary 0 Dudley 6c 31

So it seems to leave Florence Jane, Grace, Frederick and Mary as possibles, unfortunately.

Well, we could try to help, but we have no clue who these people are! Names, dates, places ...

If the name isn't hugely common, it could be possible to find the birth and death.

The child would have been born between 1907 and late 1909, presumably, and died before 1911.

You can compare births for the surname for that period in the place in question against deaths for the surname for that period in the place in question.

I do it by using two separate tabs at FreeBMD, one to find the births, and another for deaths -- the deaths will show the ages at death. And then I cross-check back and forth.

If the surname is Smith and it's in London, you would have a hard row to hoe, perhaps.

But it sounds like you have a limited number of possibilities for the births, so it shouldn't be too hard to see whether there are matching deaths.

If you have a John Smith born Q4 1908, for instance, search for John Smith deaths in the same place Q4 1908 to Q2 1911 (in case the death was in early 1911 and not registered until April after the census), and check the age at death.

But then of course you wouldn't know for sure without the birth and death certificates.

Hello,
Can anyone tell me how to find my grandmothers children
On the 1911 Census it says she had 2 children born alive 1 still living at time of census and 1 died, i know she married in 1907, and the child on census was born July 1910
I have found some who could be the missing child but before 1911 it does not tell you mothers maiden name how do I tell who is her child
Thank you for any ideas

Mary
