Thanks for replies, that was a lot of money in those days, after he had served his time he was then employed by the great yarmouth workhouse as a shoemaker! Thankyou everyone for your information.

EMBEZZLING THE POOR.

Elijah Mason, until recently a collector of poor rates for the North Ward, Gt. Yarmouth, was remanded on Saturday on a charge of embezzling £365.15s.9d from the poor rates.

I'm trying to find out about a court case involving elijah mason born 1851 in norfolk who was a shoemaker employed by the board of guardians- later the workhouse- in great yarmouth norfolk, would appreciate any knowledge.
