Hello, I think the Richard Ray (born 1907 died 1957) you are trying to trace is my grandfather. However, Richard W Ray and Alice Ray are not his parents but his grandparents. His mother is Alice Ray, daughter of the aforementioned.

Alice Ray (daughter) is listed in the 1901 census but not the 1911. My grandfather's birth certificate says his mother's name was Alice, she was aged 20 in 1907 and his father is listed as unknown. Although he is listed as a son of Richard W Ray and Alice Ray (senior) in the 1911 census his birth certificate completely contradicts this. Therefore, he is not the brother of Henry, your grandfather, but Henry is probably his uncle.

My father said he never met any of his family on his dad's side and my grandfather never spoke about his parents or extended family. My father was born in Wandsworth and grew up in Battersea and the only thing he was told by his father was that he was raised by a family called Speers in Wandsworth. Alice Ray married a George Speers in 1911 which would explain some part of this.

My father is no longer with us so I would love to hear from you about the Ray family as we really no nothing about my grandfathers family.

Thanks. IMaybe I will check out the one who died in 1992 and see what I can find.

Christine, I wouldn't assume that he had died young just because his brother never mentioned him. My husband's father had several half brothers and sisters that his children knew nothing of - even though they mostly lived in the same area.

It may be worth checking out that 1950 death certificate.

There are the 3 possible births already listed.

LadyKira hs shown that the Camberwell Richard died in 1907.

and this looks like Richard Albert Ray's death.

Name: Richard Albert Ray
Birth Date: 28 Dec 1906
Death Registration Month/Year: Feb 1992
Age at death (estimated): 85
Registration district: Swindon
Inferred County: Wiltshire
Volume: 23
Page: 2653

So by a process of elimination that 1950 death looks like there is a good chance that he is your Richard - unless your Richard died outwith England and that 1950 chap was born elsewhere.

EDIT

Sorry just for reference here are the 3 possible births.

Richard Ray b. 1907 was living in Wandsworth at the time of the 1911 census, aged 4. Henry, his brother, aged 5 at the time never mentioned him at all to my mum so from that I am assuming that he died very young.

Hi

I am trying to find the date of death of Richard Ray. I have found him on the 1911 census aged 4. His parents were Richard and Alice Ray.

Any help greatly appreciated.
