I am trying to find more about William Stock 1821-1859 who married a Mary Butcher and had just the one son william born 1850. Lived in Great Dunmow Essex. I have found out about the son and cannot find any other siblings. William Jnr married a Barbara Chapman. Anything to get me started again as I cannot find William the elder on any census before williams birth.

So his mother Mary re-married

Willm Stock
Age: 11
Estimated birth year: abt 1850
Relation: Son
Father's Name: John Roy
Mother's Name: Mary Roy
Gender: Male
Where born: Gt Dunmow, Essex, England
Household Members: Name Age

Their marriage took place in 1857 so William must have died before the 1859 date you give above. There are deaths registered for William Stock in 1854, 1855 and 1856 in Dunmow.

Mary was born in 1816 so are you sure about the birth date of William being 1821?

Thanks so much for all this guys. So I guess that makes sense as to why I cannot find Mary either. Looks like its more likely to be HOY rather then ROY as her 2nd husbands name but then I was told by someone that although the vicars at the time were usually educated in Oxford or someplace they still relied on hearing neames at the baptisms and so names were written down as they were heard. So Hoy changed to Roy midflow.
Anyway at least that gives me a lead and you are probably right to the death date of William senior. I will double check that out. Now I need to find William seniors father and may need to get his marriage cert as there still no trace of William on 1841 census. But thanks again.
