Find Ancestors

My GG Grandmother Mary Ann Ayre (Born about 1860) is according to family ledgend Irish. On all the census I have found her as being born in Durham. She married a Thomas Douglas and they had several children.

I have their marriage certificate (12th June 1880 in Northumberland)and it has her farther down as a Philip Ayre who was a Shoe Maker. The problem is I can't find them on the census records, can any one help???

Also puzzled as to birth year and place of birth

Sorry was looking at her husbands birth year. Place of birth is what has me confused. My grandmother always said she was Irish another family member confirms this but maybe she was 2nd generation. This is what I,d like to clear up by tracing her further back but I,m having trouble.

Think I would ignore this as name of father and occupation do not match at all

could she ahve been born in Irland, but taken to South Shields as a small child and brought up there, so she believed that was where she had been born??
