Find Ancestors

I am trying to find information about Adam Ritchie born 28th January 1835 Barony, Glasgow, Scotland. Think his father was Thomas Ritchie, Glasgow. m. Ann Gunion 15/02/1824. children James Ritchie 12/10/1827 Elizabeth Wingate Ritchie 18/01/1829 and Thomas Wingate Ritchie 13/02/1834. but no Adam! We know Adams date of birth from the family bible but thats where it starts with his marriage and children, also know he was with the Black Watch and sailed to South Africa with two brothers also in the Black Watch and a sister.

Odd that Adam's birth is not recorded but this is not uncommon. I have a whole family of children recorded to my 3xGrandparents but one of their children is missing from the IGI.

However, I have actually seen the record of his christening in the Old Parish Records. Don't know why Familysearch chose to leave him off.

Helen thats what has me so confused why is he not shown, only record we have of him is on the ship with his brothers and sister and his birthdate and place in the family bible.

Noticed on the 1851 census it states all the family were born in Ireland.

The IGI however says the children were born in Glasgow and this is the correct information as the records are extracted from the Parish records.

I think what may have happened is ... the record for Adam may be illegible and difficult to read ... and so has been left off the IGI.

I'm sure if you were to see the original record for the date mentioned, you could probably make out various known details ... because you would have an idea what to look for.

Again, it says all the family were born in County Antrim, Ireland, Don't know why Thomas would give this information for his children's births when it's been proved they were born in Glasgow.
