Colonel Trimnel (born in early 1800s)

WDYTYA Advisor Report 24 Feb 2013 15:47

Colonel Trimnel (not sure if it's spelt like this) fought in the Crimean War in the Battle Of Balaclava in the 1850s.

He married a woman from the Brocklesby family, possibly Dorothy.

We don't know his first name or any other information about him (regiment etc).

We have his sword at home though!

Can anyone find anything on him?

Erm.......different angle on my part,,,,,,

Who is Dorothy?

And the Crimean war-thin red line and all that. Wouldn't that be one of the Highland Regiments???

Take good care of that sword and maybe have an expert look at it.

I understand,Linda- the TRI*L and BROCK*Y families seem to be firmly based in India.

Hmm

well the oldest girl on that census was baptised in India
name: Caroline Eliza Trimnell
gender: Female
baptism/christening date: 11 Nov 1860
baptism/christening place: Saugor, Bengal, India
birth date: 07 Feb 1860
birthplace:
death date:
name note:
race:
father's name: George Flower Trimnell
father's birthplace:
father's age:
mother's name: Fanny Raite

The mother's name is not Brocklesby, so it is probable that this family based in India has nothing to do with the sword.

I am sure that a one time, I had a link to a site which listed soldiers in the Crimea, but I can't find it, maybe I just imagined it

The battle of balaclava was on 25th October 1854 and GF Trimnell seems to have been in India then

I don't think I can do much more until the person who asked the original question gets home and looks at the thread

I agree,Linda.

Perhaps it's a "presentation sword".

http://archive.org/search.php?query=annual%20army%20list&page=1

Takes you to the books of Harts Army lists. the books are out of copyright and can be read on line. There is one for 1853 on the first page. There are no Trimnells in the back in the index, yet the assistant surgeons were in India at the time, They can't have been in the army
Odd though that in 1853 there are no results for Trimnell or close spelling
