James Report 14 Sep 2009 09:46

Hi

Some great people on here have helped me in the past when I have been stuck! Wonder if anyone has any ideas/knows what Im doing wrong here!

Am look for a family on 1871 census but no luck. The have always been in London and no reason to go abroad but I can only find one sibling that is staying with an Aunt!

The names are -

Susan Twilley (nee Maides) b1840 Edmonton (MOTHER)
Frederick Twilley b1859 Marylebone
Alfred b1861 Strand
Rosetta Ann b 1864 Strand

I have found a sibling Susan b1863 Strand living in Regents Park with a relative but have drawn blanks on all the others.

Any ideas from anyone?

I have found the parents on the 1861 and have them on the 1891 and 1901. Havent looked at the 1881 at all as I dont have a sub to any other sites.

Many thanks

Jacky - what a star you are!

That has to be them. I will have a look at the original later.

I had tried all kinds of variants of twilley but have to be honest and say i didnt try Swilley!!

Dont suppose you had any luck on the 1881?

Thank you!

James -
Re "Havent looked at the 1881 at all as I dont have a sub to any other sites."

It's free to search on Ancesty and the LDS site:
http://www.familysearch.org/eng/search/frameset_search.asp?PAGE=census/search_census.asp

Both use the LDS transcription. The LDS has a better display of the household, but it's easier to search on Ancestry. (I usually search on Ancestry, then look up my find on the LDS site, where it's also easier to check out neighbours.)

You do need an Ancestry sub to see their image, however.

thanks Dea / Jacky

the 1861 I didnt have but havent looked at that one yet. Many thanks.

The 1881 is the real one that is a pain. I had a look at an address that I had on an 1883 birth certificate but no luck which is not surprising as the family did move about quite a lot!

Im about out of imagination as to the different ways/permutations of Twilley too!!!

Could you give us the details you have from that 1883 birth cert please? - You never know...............

Mind you, that would probably be a child of Frederick Jnr??? as Frederick Snr. died in 1866?

I think Susan may not have died until 1909 but I still can't find her on any other census! drattt!!! I thought she would probably have remarried having been widowed so young but I can't find any evidence of this either!

Hi Dea

Apologies - it is a marriage certificate! Not birth.I dont have it on me but it is the marriage of Rosetta Ann Twilley to William Churchill.

At that time Rosetta lived at 3 Little George St and William lived at 6 Little George St (or vice versa!). Little George St was off the Hampstead Road near Euston Station. I think that fell under Pancras or maybe Marylebone.

From memory (im at work so no access to the docs I have) Susan is present in the 1901 living with Rosetta and William but I cant be sure on that.

It is really only Rosetta I am interested in. She was my GGG-M and this is the only gap I now have on her!! She always stayed local and was at various addresses in Soho/Central London up to and including 1901. She died in 1902.

im going to be away from my PC for the rest of the evening probably so apologies if I am silent until tomorrow!

many many thanks for your help!

J
