if it's living relatives you are looking for then you should post on Find Living Relatives - make sure you give a date of birth

Bryan,

On your other post you mention a brother and the fact that from your grandfathers military records you have his parents names but that these conflict with family stories. Would you like to post all of those names on this thread so that willing helpers can carry out investigations into those individuals to see if more records can be found.

That couldn't be him surely in 1881. He would have been too old to be a Home Child sent to Canada 1890-1900?

There are 3 Herbert Whites sent to Canada as Home Children. Is he one of these?

Thanks to those who have relpied I really appreciate it My Grandfather was Horace Skeats White. He Died in 1951 aged 80 and is buried in Teddington Middx. My mum is still alive and my uncle. We visited his grave for the first time in 60yrs a month or so back and gave him a stone HSW...

Because Both Horace (grandad) and his brother Herbert went into care they are real difficult to trace// My mum is 85 and not in the best health, it would be a great thing to trace Herbert and more of her UK Family. In 1881 Horace was in the Shoreditch Workhouse.

Horace Military Record records Father (what looks like Richard) Thomas White and Caroline Frances Wife both Dead..Brother Herbert Dr Barnardos Home and first wife Violet Maude Adams who I know about.

Family stories are so dressed up! I found out via Military Horace did six months! Nobody eith knew or admitted to that! I suppost I can go to Barnardos for some further work.

I might be a bit off line...notes tell me that Herbert WAS a Barnardos Boy and that he went to Canada..However mum seems to think that if he was born between 1868 and 1881 he would be too old for the Barnardos shipments? Anybody know what the age limit was in Barnados, OR when they sorta left the care of Barnardos? Waiting for replies from them is like waiting for paint to dry..

Herbert's Brother ( ~My Grandfather) is Horace White..Born Hackney 1871 and inmate at Shoreditch Workhouse in 1881.. Can I view the workhouse records? Do they have names of next of kin or Mother and Father/Guardians BEFORE admission?

I would like to thank those who posted here on my thread. Mum died last June and she will never know the fate of Herbert. On the UP side I have copy of the ledgers for the Shorditch Workhouse which states both Horace and Herbert were admitted together in 1881,placed there by their father ( commercial traveller!) Reason for admission. DESTITUTE!

Horace went into the infirmary with ringworm and horace was sent on somewhere else. As far as I know they never met again.. :-(
