I am researching the ancestors of Douglas Graham Gibson - he was born in approx 1880, died 1942 in South Africa. He married Mary Elizabeth McGurk (Lillie) in about 1920. Who were his parents? Where did he grow up? The only clue we have to his nationality is a photo of him in WWI taken in Glasgow in his army uniform. Help please!

Have you looked for the marriage on ScotlandsPeople site? Or did they marry in South Africa?

There is a medal card on Ancestry which could be him, although these cards do not give much info.

It states he is 2nd Lieutenant, in the Royal Scots, he applied for his medals in 1923 and the address given is
PO box 282
Durban

Natal

so there is a South Africa connection with this record

would you know from his photo it was a officers uniform, although it also states he started out as a driver, if i am reading it correctly
