Looking at the 1841 Census and St Stephens baptism records. I think James Coopers father was William Cooper born in 1786.

Other possibilities are:

1781 John
1782 William
1783 Adam
1790 John

Thanks for the Census and Marriage look-ups.
Certainly gives me more to go on.
Ann's maiden name Walthall or Nield both uncommon names.
Should be relatively easy to track down.

Could you find Census and Marriage details of one of James sons Thomas please.

Hi Simon, here Thomas is in 1881. He seems to have taken over his dad's farm. Did you notice in 1861 census, one of the servants had the surname Neild? Possible relative of the wife?

Merry Xmas to you

I had noticed the name Nield. I have confirmed that now through another GR tree. Thanks again.

So Thomas Cooper married an Ann Cooperin 1873.

Ann died in 1883 giving birth to son Arthur. He died 10 weeks later. Source: http://www.wishful-thinking.org.uk/genuki/CHS/MacclesfieldForest/MIs.html

Thomas must have married Elizebeth Ann in 1883/84. Her maiden name would be useful.

My connection I think is through Thomas's son William. I think he married Ellen Pearson from Chinley/Bugsworth area. Their daughter was my Grandmother.

The change of occupation is interesting. My Dad has told me in the past that Harold had a building company in Macclesfield called Cooper Brothers but I have never found any information on it.

I just now need to confirm Thomas's William to Ellen and I confident my understanding is correct.

I still need to find James 1816 parents I think his father was William (I worked this out from other Gravestone at St Stephens)

Have a great Xmas and thank-you

Regards

Simon

I think this is Harold's birth (1891 census). This would tell you Elizabeth Ann's maiden name as I'm not finding anything on ancestry or freebmd as to a marriage.

Liz

Thanks for all the information and so much info found on Xmas day!

I will peruse the information through the day and speak to my Dad to confirm what he knows.

I know my Grandmother was Evelyn born to William Cooper and Ellen Cooper (nee Pearson). Moved from Bugsworth in the early 1900's.

I just need to be sure that the William Cooper on the 1901 Census in Chinley/Bugsworth is the son of Thomas Cooper from Macclesfield Forest.

What happened to them. Farmers then builders. William working as a Ag Lab in another area. Family must have had a hard time in the 1890's.

Thanks for your help so far

I have ordered William Coopers and Ellen Pearsons marriage cert to confirm the link between Bugsworth and Macc Forest.
Thomas 1781 is my direct descendent I am 95% sure. James 1815 was his son then Thomas 1852. William 1879 who married Ellen and then my Grandma Evelyn in 1901.

Still don't know what happened to the farm.
I have been trying to find details of The Earl of Derby's land in Macc Forest area. The land was rented from his Estate. A record of why Thomas Cooper left the farming must be somewhere.

Anybody know where these records are?

HI all

The Marriage Cert has arrived confirming William Cooper from Macclesfield (doens't say Forest ;ack of space) married Ellen Pearson from Chapel on le Frith.

Fathers Thomas Cooper Stonemason and Joseph Pearson Retired Farmer.

Still a few unanswered questions why did Thomas stop farming.
Where did Joseph disappear to for 20 years. Was he in an Asylum in Derby?
