Horatio Charles Skinner was born in Chatham, Kent in 1865. He was the son of Arthur Skinner and Sarah Gamserd. He married in the Medway area in 1stQ 1891, but who?
possible wives Jacob Edith Sarah Medway 2a 824
Stone Charlotte Caroline J Medway 2a 824
I cannot find any trace of him after his marriage until his death in 1933 in West Ham .
Can anyone find him on the 1891,1901 or 1911 census? Did he have any children?

Very strange on the 1911 they had 9 children but 4 had died but they still included them it seems.

It looks like the last 4 children mentioned died in infancy even though two of them had jobs....um very strange

MarieCeleste Report 7 Dec 2010 23:29

Odd Jax, I wonder if they meant 5 still at home? There are occupations/scholar status given , which there surely wouldn't be if they really had died.

Katie

Katie Report 7 Dec 2010 23:33

As you say jax very strange, I'll have to sort out who is alive and who is dead! They all seem to have "occupations"... It does look like him though.
He was convicted of rape in the 1880s - perhaps that's why he started using his second name.

Well there are two Arthurs MC and the elder Arthur and lily are not on the 1901 either

jax

Getting an error message when I try to look at the image

jax

jax Report 8 Dec 2010 02:02

Thanks for helping me to start unravelling all of this! I am still struggling with Alfred.
Has anyone got any idea why the dead children have been given occupations when all died in infancy?
I can hopefully check the Chatham baptisms but are West Ham ones included on the Ancestry London baptisms? I don't have access to this.
Katie

jax

jax Report 8 Dec 2010 17:45

Walthamstow is'nt covered in the London Baptisms as I have found with my own family.
I does seem strange to include these children if they had died, but stranger things have happened on these forms

jax

jax

jax Report 8 Dec 2010 18:00

I Know that... and as West Ham came under Essex too it is not included in the London Baptisms

LadyKira Report 8 Dec 2010 18:01

Just a thought
What if they read the question as how many children alive/
How man children have died?

There are 8 children on here so there is still one missing

So who died?

I am at work so cannot follow through-sorry

jax

jax Report 8 Dec 2010 18:12

There is nine LK think you need to go to spec savers lol

They would'nt have two children called Arthur either so the eldest one must have died

jax

LadyKira

LadyKira Report 8 Dec 2010 23:46

Ok Jax
LOL I was having a bad day.

If neither Arthur 1894 or Lily are on 1901 they must have died as babes.
A real puzzle this.

jax

jax Report 8 Dec 2010 23:54

Thats why I posted those deaths which could possably be them?

Lily's birth

with the same middle names as her mother so looks like a dead cert for this one
Not seeing an Arthur in Medway though one in Malling is that close by?
