Trying to find Butler

June Report 23 Feb 2006 18:50

My grandmother, Marion Florence White nee Butler, died in 1935 aged 52, allegedly. Her age on her marriage in November1901 in Walthamstow, London, to John White was given as 23. Her father's name and occupation are given on the Marriage Certificate as Jo(b) Butler, an engine driver but I cannot trace her in the 1901 Census at all. Neither can I find any Job or Joe Butler, an engine driver, with a daughter called Marion Florence of the right age or at all. My mother was adamant that her mother's family came from Wolvercote near Oxford but I cannot find any Butlers who tick any of the boxes in Wolvercote. My mother also said that she thought Marion Florence had both Scottish and Irish ancestors, so she could have been born in Ireland or Scotland.
