Please help me find my G Grandad George Cole . He was born about 1826 in Steeple Maldon . I know married my G Grandmum called Elizabeth do not know here maiden name or when they got married she was born about 1837 in Ridewell in Essex. As you will see Lyn the surnames slightly differ over the censuses, often mispelt due to the fact that learning to read or write was a thing for the upper classes and wasn't deemed as required for us lower ranking mortals.

Sorry to confuse you Lyn.

On the 1871 census Emma Davis is listed as George and Elizabeth Coles daughter.

The Davis name is selt incorrectly and should read Danes, Daynes or Dains........... this is Elizabeth Coles maiden name, so Elizabeth had Emma out of wedlock and then she married George Cole.
