Hi. I am looking for any information on ALEXANDER DAVIDSON, born 1842 in Dundee. Baptism 25 Nov 1842. He married Mary Trimming from Hampshire, England. At various times he was a Quarter Master Sergeant; Sergeant Instructor of Volunteers; Soldier; Drill Instructor; and Chelsea Pensioner. In the 1881 Census he was living with his family at 9 Hall Street, Auchterderran, Fife. He seems to have separated from his wife. In 1914, when Mary died, she was living in Leslie, Fife. She had a child, Robert Trimming or Davidson in Leslie in 1885. On his birth certificate, it states that she has not heard from her husband since 4th April 1883 and he is not the father of her child. When Robert died in Leslie in 1931, his brother William, who registered the death, seems to have informed the registrar that Alexander Davidson was Robert's father. I have ALEXANDER'S parents and siblings back a further 2 generations, but have never been able to find out what happened to him after he left Mary Trimming. His parents were WILLIAM DAVIDSON b. 1803 Dundee and HELEN ADAM. They were married in Dundee in 1837. Can anyone help? Elaine |
