Find Ancestors

I am still trying to find out who my granddad was. I now know he was born in 1910 and on my mums birth certificate and his marriage certificate it reads joseph henry elliott. I have looked up in the births for that year and cant find any joseph henry elliotts. There are plenty of joseph elliotts but as i dont know where he was born i am stuck as to what to do next. I do know his fathers name was Robert Elliott. I would be very grateful for any advice and if any one could help. Many thanks. Elaine.

I have looked on FreeBMD and there are to many marriages of Robert and births of Joseph to say which one could be them. Please give the name of the witnesses on the marriage certificates and where the weddings took place that may help. Robert should be around in the 1901 census. Joseph of course was born after the last census. Irene

Hi, Geraldine, thankyou so much for trying to help me. I am at a total loss at the moment. The marriage certificate i have definetly says he was 26 years old when he married my nanna, so he must have been born in 1910. The were married in Lincoln at the register office.I dont know anything more about him and cant find a birth for a joseph henry in 1910. My mum died a few years ago and all i remember her telling me is that he left when she was young. My mum spoke of wishing she had traced him before she died, this is why i so desperatley want to find out about him. I dont have any living family to ask but i know that my mums younger brother had a different father and he was irish,so i am wondering whether maybe my grandad was also irish but i am not sure how to access the irish records.Thanks again ,anymore help would be much appreciated. If he was born in 1910, his age at this marriage would have been only 15.
If he was born 1908 then his age at marriage would have been 17!

Something tells me he told porky pies about his age at marriage?

Also...what was his fathers occupation on the said marriage cert? ...and what was your Nana's name?

Geraldine, I have just received the birth certificate for joseph henry elliott born 1908 in Sculcoates, unfortunately it looks like its not him because it says his fathers name was john william Elliott.I am not sure what to do next.I have a list of joseph Elliotts born in 1910, but not joseph henry. Do you think i will have to buy all the copies just to elimante them.Now i have come this far i dont want to give in but do you think i'm wasting my time as i have know idea where he was born. I do know that my nanna the lady he was married to was born in gainsborough, Lincolnshire, but i guess this doesn't mean he was from Lincolnshire, any tips on what to do next would be gratefully appreciated.
