I was wondering if anyone could work this out for me... I'm really confused.

I have worked out that one of my ancestors married HUNTER Basham Harvey W, but I am really unsure as to what "Basham" is (i.e forename or surname)... I searched for surnames with Basham and nothing has returned successful. However, I have found a Harvey hunter, but with no middle name...
...Anyone have any ideas?
...oh and my ancestor was called Grace Baildon (born 1879)

Same family in the 1901. They have moved to Lincolnshire but John is still a railway signalman even though his middle initial has changed I'm reasonably sure it's the same person. Basham has become Wesley but maybe that's what the W stands for.

Basham could be a family name from either side. It may have been his mother's maiden name or her father's name or John's Father's name When you trace your family further back you may find your answer.
Families often used family names for the eldest male child for generations. This may not be the case of course it may well be a name they heard and just liked. Who knows.

Hi James.

Birth of Basham Harvey W Hunter. 1885 July/Sept. Qtr. reg in Forehoe. vol 4b 179.

He married Grace. 1907 Oct/Dec Qtr. reg in North Bierley. W Riding.Yorkshire. vol 9b 368 (Check vol No.)
Copy of the marriage certificate will give you their ages, and their father's names and occupations, along with witnesses who may be siblings.

On the births index this name is correctly shown as Basham Harvey W, but when listed on the BMD lists it is shown as Barbara.
If Father is John, then the connection given by previous letter is correct. If Frederick is shown as the Father then there may be a possible connection to the following family.

1901 Bradford.
Frederick Hunter. 50 1851. Born Bradford.
Elizabeth 48 1853. Born Lincoln
Rose. 26. 1875 Born Allerton. Yorks
John 20 1881 Born Allerton.
Elizabeth. 17 1884 Born Allerton
HARVEY 15 1886 Born Allerton
Joseph 13 1888 Born Allerton
Fred 10 1891 Born Allerton
Leonard 8 1893 Born Allerton.

It all depends on the marriage certificate. Hope this helps. Happy Xmas. Ethel.

Thanks a lot for that Ethel. I have a feeling it might be that one, because Grace was from Bradford...

I will have to have a look into it.

Thanks again!
