Find Ancestors

I am indeed very grateful for your help and advice. There is no father's name on the birth certificate so I've nothing to go on from his side. I only know Dad was brought up in Hollybrook House and have contacted Southampton archives about this.

My daughter and I would dearly love to discover more and now know how to try and go about it.

I am looking for a Lily Gibbs in this area who would have been my grandmother. My father, Henry Gibbs, was born in a Southampton workhouse with the name of his mother on his birth certificate as Lily Gibbs of 60 Northumberland Road which, I think, is either Portsmouth or may be Southampton.

Would dearly love to trace ancestors as Dad was left to grow up in the workhouse before making his way in the world. He was a wonderful person, much loved by all who knew him and with a distinguished service record in WW2.
