John Report 8 May 2007 09:57

My name is John Moore but I was born as John Newin in Oxford in 1945. My father was a George Newin, born 6 Jan. 1920 and I believe he spent his childhood in Abbingdon. He married my mother in Oxford in 1944 but they divorced and I took my Stepfathers name when my mother remarried. George had a brother, Ivor, who lived in Oxford but the only other family member that I know of was a cousin called Michael. Georges' father was a lockkeeper on the Thames somewhere near Wolvercote(just outside Oxford) and there were 2 or 3 Newins living in that part of the country. George was in the Navy during the 39-45 war, as was his Father, who was recalled from retirement having served previously in the Navy. I believe he was a CPO when he retired the first time. George has a Daughter, Marion Ridley, who live in Easington Nr Middlesborough but I have only met her once.
