Susannah Nicholls

Old Report 3 Jun 2010 00:55

I have a lot of info about my relatives who lived in Sudbury, Suffolk. However, I have been unable to trace any info on Susannah Nicholls (Sushannah) on 1861 census, and away from home in 1851 census. I am trying to find her DOB and christening date. All her brothers and sisters (there were 9 other children) were christened at St Gregory or St Peter, Sudbury.

She was 9 at the time of the 1851 census

Father was Peter Nicholls born 1807 married Matilda Daley in 1829.

It seems odd that one daughter in a line of children should not be christened.

Can anyone succeed where others have failed in finding her DOB

Thanks in advance

Arthur

Have you accounted for each of the other children in census?

I have known of children to be christened with one name and be registered with a different forename.
Could this have happened in your family and Susannah was baptised using a different name.?

My gt grandparents had 16 children and I have found 14 of them on the London baptisms one I didnt find may have died soon after birth and the other one was my grandmother who was number 16 and they moved to another area when she was born I am sure she was baptised but obviously not at the same church as the others

Thank you everyone for your help.

Do not know how I failed to find her in the christening records of St Peters.

Will track down the possible marriage, although I did find a Susannah Nicholls working as a servant in London on the 1871 census.

When I posted my query, I said her mother's maiden name was Mathilda Daley - cannot explain why as her name was Mayes, possibly May (on the 1851 census Susannah was away from home staying with Abraham May & his wife - could be her grandparents).

Thanks once again for all the info.
