I am trying to find ascendants of John Perkins (and his wife), born around 1843 I think in Bewdley, Worcestershire. As far as I have been told every generation of this family seems to only had 2 children, one son and one daughter.

John Perkins born around 1843 in Bewdley, Worcs, butcher employer at home and Lily Broadbent 1858 in Leeds, Yorks. They got married before March 1879 in King’s Norton (Vol 6c, page 419). In 1881 they are living in Leamington Priors with John Broadbent Perkins, their son aged 11 months, Frederick Duffil aged 34, butcher and Sarah Smith aged 15, servant/Nurse’s girl They had 2 children:

G2) John Broadbent Perkins born around 1880 in Handsworth, Birmingham. In 1901 he is living with his parents in Leamington Priors and is a Brass founder worker. He got married to Beatrice Bessie Summerton born in Chipping Campden
G3)John Charles Broadbent Perkins 1908 and Kathleen Bessie Blackwell 1907
G3)Beatrice Merle Perkins 1918 and Derek George Foster 1907 (my grandparents)

G2) Dorothy Leslie Perkins born 1887 in Bromsgrove, Worcs and Sidney Knight Morey 1892
G3)Peter John Morey 1923 died during the Second World War

Actually small mistake as I don't need ascendants of John Perkin's wife; Lily Broadbent, as I have plenty of information. More interested in the Perkins family as I haven't been able to go further than John Perkins born 1843, my gg grandfather

You could send for the marriage cert for John and Lily then you would get Johns fathers name which would make it easier to find on the 1851 census

Hi!
have found a John perkins aged 7 in the 1851 census.
Father:John aged 57
Mother Drusilla: aged 49
Brothet Thomas: aged 15

Father is registered as a beer seller.
Address: 'Plough Inn', 63 ( what looks like) Clevbury Road.
Interestingly there is a George Perkins living with a Sarah Davey or Dovey in No 64, next door. George is listed as her nephew.
They are all living in the Rock area.

Does this help?

Flick - yes I'm looking for ancestors of John Perkins. I haven't a clue how to find his parents as I'm not in England and the only info that I managed to find was the same as Anne's, that he was with his grandparents in 1851 (but is this the correct John? I don't know).

The rest is irrelevant but:

John Perkins married to Lily Broadbent, we have never heard that he was married a first time with a child so this could be quite amazing because I have just spoken to my father who has just confirmed that he did go to the US on the gold rush. For us he was born in Bewdley, Worcestershire (which Mary confirms on her info), was a butcher, but my great grandfather left home at 15 and was estranged from his father so we don't know anything else because he was never spoken about.
This is fascinating.

It might help to see the details from that 1851 census:

'This' John was an orphan, living with his grandmother.

I cannot at the moment trace the grandmother back with certainty and I cannot
see a Perkins/Bourne marriage to fit. - Can't look now but will look further later.

Thank you all very much for your help. It's beginning to make sense.

John's mother would have been a Miss Bourne married to a Mr Perkins (could possibly be a John as every generation that we know of had a son with the forename of John) and he would therefore have been an orphan very young.

Next step in effect - finding their marriage

If you have the ref to his marriage to Lily buy his marriage cert which you can do online. that will tell you who his father was if he knew.

Flick; I know, confusing because I had found that information a while ago and don't understand because he was born in Bewdley for us as I said before but I think it's interesting that in your information you've definately got the right family in 1881 - John, Lily and John their son. Which would probably make the information about his first wife in 1871 correct too. Not sure what to think!

You really do need that marriage cert first so that you can be sure you are following the correct John.

The will which Maryb has found would also be very useful.

If you say he went to the US in the gold rush and his first wife was from the US and his first child Gorgia was born in the US then he must have married there the first time.

Most interesting! Thanks a lot everyone.

I know have to look up John's parents who must have been a Miss Bourne and a Mr Perkins.
