Hi,
I think I have found my grandfather on the 1901 census but cannot trace his birth details. I have looked upto the end of 1902.
His age last birthday was 0 in the census and he was born in Gravesend, Kent.
Thank you in advance for any assistance.

Do you know Dorothy's middle name?

Wondering if Dorothy was registered in Strood - maybe George was too?

You might have the wrong family in the census.

Do you have your grandfather's date of birth?

What does his marriage cert say about his father?

Thank you for all of this.
The only other information I have on George Geoffrey is that he was married to Edith Avis Loiusa Lock in Kensington registered July, August, September 1926.
I know they moved to Hinckley, Leicestershire and had 6 children of which my farther Barrie was one.
With the census I simply searched George Smith and approx dob and only came up with one with a middle initial G. He may ofcourse have been born after 1901. His wife Edith was born in 1906.
Thank you again.

You need to get hold of the marriage cert. That will give you his age at the time plus his father's details. It's very risky trying to put stuff together without these details - especially with a name like Smith.

Come back when you have the marriage cert and we'll help you track him down then!

Hi Jill,
Yes that is true; I do benefit from a rather popular surname which does make the search more difficult.
One final question. When ordering birth certificates etc is this detail sufficient eg Kensington 1a 447?
Regards,

Thank you Eric,
The second one looks a possibility due to the Hinckley link but yes you are right I should not guess....
Your time is greatly appreciated.
