I'm trying to find Thomas Smith who was born around 1865 and married Alice Thomas in 1887 in West Derby. He may have lived in Whiston before this. He was a blacksmith. Unfortunately I cannot find any trace of him and there was very little known of him in the family. |

you probably need the marriage certificate to find his fathers name to help identify him in previous census returns |

I wonder if this is him in Whiston with his grandparents in 1891. Wife not with him. |

Yes I found that entry in Whiston and it would make sense because Alice was in Whiston too at age 11. I do have the marriage certificate and his father was also Thomas Smith but I've tried to find him and cannot and I've tried to find Thomas after the marriage but cannot. The age of Alice has been changed on the marriage cert to age her but the date has been written over to say 1886 which makes me think she may have been pregnant but I cannot find a child. She had my G/grandfather in 1892/3 in Fenton, Staffs but I cannot find Thomas??? |

So that would imply he went back to West Derby after the 1891 census when he is with his grandparents, assuming this is the same Thomas. I wonder if he had family in West Derby? But if he does die before the 1901 census I'm not going to find out if it is him or if he had a daughter with Alice. Any ideas what I can try next? |
