I am trying to find any information on Ambrose Smith born in Burslem Stoke on Trent in around 1812. I think he married someone called Mary Kettle or Hettle. Any help welcome!

Thanks all for your replies.

I have looked again at the original census and see that the visitor Hettle is indeed Kettle so matching the IGI record for the wifes name. So a relative present to confirm the surname.

The christening info of the offspring was new to me so thanks also for that.

I remain sceptical about the ancestors of Ambrose at Brierley Hill, Sedgley and Bilston which are fairly distant for that time and do not tally with the census replies for either place or date.

At least it seems this family in my past was consistent from census to census, many have not been and have almost regarded the census scribe as someone to be duped, if they even understood what was wanted!

Regards, I hope I amable to help you sometime.
