I am trying to find information on my great grandfather Arthur Smith, born 1888, in Birmingham. He married my Great Grandmother Lilian Annie Cobley Allen in 1915 in Birmingham. Arthur was the son of Edwin Smith a shoemaker. I can't find much information on Arthur's mother or if Edwin had any more children. Any help would be appreciated.

I've looked and can not find them on any census.

Was Edwin listed as still alive or deceased on Arthur's marriage certificate ?

I have the marriage certificate and the witnesses were both from Lilian's side of the family so I believe that Edwin was dead, but it does not say deceased on the certificate. They were married at a Unitarian Church on Hurst Street, Birmingham which has since been demolished. It was Arthur and Lilian's second marriage's. There is a possibility that Arthur was living with the Grandmother back in 1881 but can't be sure.

Hi Mark

You mentioned that Arthur ws born in 1888 so he would not appear on the 1881 census?

Hi PaulaW
I have looked and can't find Arthur in 1891 census with his Father Edwin. I have even tried tracing a marriage for Edwin Smith but with no real luck. Just hoping for a ray of light at the moment.
Thanks for the help though.
