I am looking for information on an Ann Smith. She married a Thomas Booth probably somewhere in the Manchester area, date unknown as I have not been able to find any details at the Records Office of the marriage or of her birth which I think was around 1848/1853. She wa the mother of James William Booth who wa born in 1880 on either the 14th of March or the 15th February. I have two. bits of old documents which give thesedifferent dates any help would be nmuch appreciated.

You may have a birth record and a christening record?
His birth certificate will give his actual date of birth:
http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl
Births Jun 1880 ? BOOTH James William Manchester 8d 211
(could have been born late first quarter and registered in second quarter)
Searching at FreeBMD for Thomas Booth + Ann Smith 1865-1885, your couple could have married in Salford 1874. You would have to get that marriage certificate to start, to check that they married each other and what Ann's age and father's name was.

Hi Marlene - got your PM - always always reply in the thread -- clicking the purple REPLY button up top opens the invisible box.
You said:
Thanks for your reply. I have part of a school leaving document dated 7th September 1895 giving the date of birth as 15th February 1880 but his birth certificate says 14th March 1880 so not sure if I have the right persons cert. Not been able to trace anyhting at all for ann smith.
You have the certificate for the record I posted? It does look like the only likely one.
Another option is that his birth wasn't registered as Booth, say if his parents weren't married. But I'd get the possible Booth-Smith certificate I referred to above and check it out.
Here - you order under only one surname, or if you want to save a bit of money, specify both and they don't charge full price if they don't match.
Marriages Dec 1874 ? Booth Thomas Salford 8d 90 GREEN Sarah Salford 8d 90 ? Smith Ann Salford 8d 90 SMITH James Salford 8d 90
Basically, Salford = Manchester, I believe.

Got your PM again Marlene. ;) You're welcome! and you did it right - your post is in the thread here.
June's info above shows that the two people did indeed marry each other. So the certificate will tell you their ages and fathers' names and occupations.
Just bring that info back to this thread when you have the certificate if you need more help. You can find the thread anytime by clicking on "My threads" over on the left.
