Can anyone please advise me how to find birth details for Winifred Ada Smith dob 1888c in Aldernay. I have been unable to find the district that deals with this area pre 1900.
I know Winifred married Thomas Gilmore in India in 1917.
Any help will be great.

Oh you are in luck I have family connections living in Alderney. If you contact the States office on Alderney Ime sure they would be able to help you. I dont know how much you know about Alderney, but they are governed by Guernsey If I can help further let me know

It might also help to get the marriage certificate from GRO, hopefully her father's name will be on it.

ok I've found her on the Army birth returns

so you can order her birth certificate from GRO
