Richard Atkins or Adkins ( born Stretton on Dunsmore , Warwickshire , ca. 1871 - i can't find a birth registration ), son of Thomas Atkins ( ca. 1845 - 1901 ) & Eliza ( ca. 1852 - 1922 ).
Family name transcribed as Adkins ( 1881 / 1891 census' ) & standardized as Atkins ( 1901 / 1911 census' ).
Also missing brothers Henry (Harry) John Atkins ( born Wolston, Warwicks, 1883 ) & Walter J. Atkins ( born Wolston, ca. 1888 - again , i can't find his birth reg. ) ) - possibly in the military..?
Sorry about the vagueness of this post - this family is slowly driving me MAD !
Thanks

Thanks Choccy....how tragic...it's still saddens me whenever i find out that someone had died in the Great War.
Thanks Lindsey , this looks very promising for Richard ...i can believe that he thought he may have been born in Wolston as both his mother & most of his siblings were born there !
EDIT
hello again Catherine - i am still plodding-on with this deeply frustrating family ! ( they are connected to the Robbins' clan , the folk you kindly helped me with afew days ago).

Lindsey , typical - i don't have Ancestry unfortunately. I am trying to sort this out for my cousin , who lost his father afew weeks ago , aged 85 ( it is his tangled family tree you are all helping me to build ).
I know of ancestors in Canada , but not Australia.

Hello! Always frustrating with a name like Atkins (Adkins), and how sad that the two brothers were both killed in the war. But at least you know what happened to them now. Catherine

Don't think he died in the Great War.
Have now found a tree on Ancestry which has a daughter, Brenda Betty Atkins, born in 1923 in Leicestershire.
'Usually' service and pension records are not on Ancestry if a soldier has died (that said, sometimes they are!)
Births Jun 1923 (>99%) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ATKINS Brenda B Harris Lutterworth 7a 6
(this is assuming the tree is 'correct')
Pension records have him 'demobbed' March 1919

Thanks Choccy , could i ask you how old Edith was when she died in 1971 please ( i think the word 'widow' on those pension records confused me - i now assume this means that she was a widow when she married John Atkins..? ).

Yes, a widow when she married John Atkins.
She was apparently born Edith Annie Harris in 1888 in Lutterworth, Leicestershire, so she would have been about 83 when she died.
