Essington war memorial, Staffordshire

The war memorial at St Johns Church Essington Staffordshire lists a Thomas Smith having died during the 1st world war. How can I find out any more information. |

Difficult, with such a common name. You could plough through the surviving WW1 service records on Ancestry to see if a man of that name with connections to the place has records. You could also look at the 1911 census to see if a man of that name or his family were living there. |
