Sometimes on Scottish census the women did use their maiden names but have you looked in Scotland for the marriage or found them + children in 1881

In the 1891 census Alick(female) and Susan were born in England, so they could be living there in 1881

Where was Emily born?

Cannot find before 1891 in Scotland or England..
The Censuses in Scotland, I have copies of the originals downloaded from Scotlands People. Alick (Female) is Alice!! and I think Sarah age 43 is 48. She died in 1920 aged 68 in Inverness. Emily was also "born England" in census but after marriage she is down as "born London England".

Edited to add I have Emily's marriage cert and records of her life in Canada and her death in Canada in 1920, but no Birth Cert.

Have you proof that Sarah is the girls' mother? ie. Charles didn't remarry?

No. I cannot find birth certs for the whole family or the marriage of Charles and Sarah. On Sarah's death cert it says "married to Charles Buckley". On Emily's Marriage Cert it has Father Charles Buckley Mother Sarah Buckley ms Smith.

Cannot see a birth for an Emily Buckley in London area.
Does Charles ever use a second name?
Thanks

Maybe the weren't actually married

TiddlyBow Report 27 Nov 2010 15:50

There is a possibility they were not married.

Does Charles ever use a second name?....I do not know.

(Not to be confused with my uncle, Charles Gunn Buckley (illegitimate son of Susan Buckley and George Gunn my Gm &Gf.) who became Charles Buckley Gunn on marriage of parents),

Susan marriage Cert - parents Sarah Buckley ms Smith and Charles Buckley.
