Maria Smith was born (according to census') in Hull, Yorkshire c1852.

I can trace her before her marriage but not before.

In 1872 she married William Barron and had a large family in Hull. I haven't been able to determine her family and thought before I send for a cert. someone might recognise her. Her children were Emma. Kate, Sarah, Ada, Eliza, Hilda, Joseph, Thomad, Frederick, Arthur, Edith, Clarice, Elma, Ada (no 2).
Although I can trace trees containing this family no-one seems to know who Maria's family where.
Any help would be appreciated.

A copy of her marriage certificate should hopefully give you her fathers details which will at least give you one other name as a clue to work with. Witnesses names may also give you further clues to help track her down.

What about this for a possibility for her in 1861?

The 1871 and 1881 census records give a bit more insight into Maria's mother Lucy's husband who never appears on the census together with Lucy. It states that he is a mariner.

Someone who has saved that census has also saved a record of a John Smith, mariner, who died in Norway in 1885. The probate record shows him as the husband of a Lucy Clarke Smith at 32 Waverley St, Hull. Previous addresses of Little Ann St and Osborn St are also mentioned.

Thanks everyone. I have seen this info online but have nothing to confirm the child. Looks like I shall have to get the cert. Thanks again.
