Hi Chrissie.
that is it seems the right Ambrose, what I know of him is that he had a son Named Ambrose who was married to a Morella, and another son Ferdanad who died 1826 and a daughter Susannah.

chrissiex Report 13 Feb 2011 21:05

where did the son's marriage and death and the birth of the daughter take place ??

AnnCardiff

AnnCardiff Report 13 Feb 2011 21:06

eight Ambrose Smith's in Oz and NZ but a bit difficult to tie them in unless we have an idea of where in Australia he went - any idea if he married over there or did he marry over here?

chrissiex

chrissiex Report 13 Feb 2011 21:06

the names are unusual enough that this seems coincidental

is this the christening of Ferdinand Smith's daughter Susannah ?

--- edit --- my mistake --- Susannah is daughter of Ambrose sr not not his son Ferdinand --- was this Ferdinand Smith a brother of Ambrose sr ??

you said of Ambrose Smith who went to Australia that he was born 1760 and

'what I know of him is that he had a son Named Ambrose who was married to a Morella, and another son Ferdanad who died 1826 and a daughter Susannah.'

please ....... can you tell us where_the_information_came_from

that Ambrose Smith father of Ambrose and Ferdinand was born 1760, went to Australia, died 1790

???

(I have edited because I kept typing 1800s instead of 1700s)

chrissiex

chrissiex Report 13 Feb 2011 21:22

oh I see now ...

an Ancestry hint ...

please

Ancestry hints are notoriously stupid and false

please do not present them as if they are fact !!!

there is very little likelihood that _your_ Ambrose Smith ever went to Australia

TonyOz

TonyOz Report 13 Feb 2011 21:23

Just to add.

If Ambrose Smith died in Australia in 1790 his death would have been in NSW.

The first fleet arrived in 1788

So possibly soldier or convict.

Ambrose Smith, one of 1063 convicts transported on the Neptune, Scarborough and Surprize, December 1789.
Details: Sentence details: Convicted at Gloucester Assizes for a term of 7 years.
Vessel: Neptune, Scarborough and Surprize.
Date of Departure: December 1789.
Place of Arrival: New South Wales.

I did look in NSW records on line ... without knowing that !

nothing for an Ambrose Smith at all

no marriage
no death
no children

I think we can dismiss this as nonsense from Ancestry, lol

Terry

Terry Report 13 Feb 2011 21:25

Chrissie,
his son Ferdand,I only know his death 1826,Susannah was the daughter of Ambrose born 1760and died 1790 so she was 3 when he died

Terry

Terry Report 13 Feb 2011 21:26

thank you tony

here is son Ambrose in 1841

Name: Ambrose Smith
Age: 55
Estimated birth year: abt 1786
Gender: Male
Where born: Norfolk, England

Civil Parish: St Swithin
Hundred: Norwich
County/Island: Norfolk

Ambrose Smith 55
Maria Smith 55
Maria Smith 25
Martha Smith 25
Caroline Smith 15
William Smith 10

he was born within a few short years before Ambrose sr supposedly died in Australia

if Ambrose sr had been a convict yes that is possible, otherwise I don't think he would have left his young children behind in England

are there convict records that would show this TonyOz ?
