SMITHs of Staffordshire/Derby/Belton in Leicestershire. Elizabeth SMITH bapt 1823 Belton,LEI was mother of **(see below)Francis SMITH b. Linton,DBY 1842 ( Christened 1843 Ashby de la Zouch). Elizabeth married Thomas LANGLEY and had several more children: John (died),Mary,Sarah Ann,Thomas,Harry and John. see 1851,1881,1891 census for Linton and Church Gresley, DBY.See website South Derbyshire Genealogical Resources. Elizabeth MAY have been the daughter of Tobias and Dorothy SMITH and sister of Tobias bapt 1820,William bapt 1822 d. 1875, Thomas bapt 1826 d.1826, Thomas bapt 1827, John bapt 1833. All bapt. in Belton LEI. Benjamin SMITH: any information on this character would be welcome. He apparently was in the Royal Marines in 1832 and may have been attached to the North Star when he died 1837. **Francis SMITH was already a widower when he married Anne ISON in 1865 at Burton on Trent STS. They had 9 children and lived at Derby Lane, Dallow St and Victoria St in B on T. The whole family came to Australia except the eldest daughter, Annie who married John Bramage ( I am in touch with her Grandson in UK) I am interested in hearing from any descendants of the Smith/Langley family.
