He is not to be found with certainty in 1881 but the 1891 Census for Braintree shows being born in Tilbury (Tilbury by Clare?) living in Black Notley Essex with his wife - Emily nee Spooner from Woolpit, Suffolk and their three children - Charles born 1884, John William born 1885 and Francis born 1890. William was employed as a Labourer for the Braintree Local Board He died 1892 in Black Notley. In 1901 Emily is married to William Monk.
