No problem, can you add all the info to the thread when the certificate arrives.

Good luck and keep in touch on the thread,

Selena

no i decided to order a death cert first, but now realise that this is unlikely to be his mother (still has not arrived yet though)

my next move is to order davids cert but dont want to order it till I am more than 50% sure and right now I am feeling a little lost in all this info!!

eek.

Have you got David's birth certificate yet? Does it give his mother's maiden name as Key?

Once you have David's mother's maiden name, then hopefully someone can find a marriage Fred/Ivy. Although I think someone already tried. Also, its possible (but no probable) that Ivy was her middle name, as people often swopped their 1st and 2nd names around.

A marriage certificate will give you Fred's and Ivy's fathers' names.

Then find Fred & Ivy's birth certs which will include mother's maiden names. Then you look for matches with that Surname and same mothers maiden name. Hope that makes sense.

okay here are the facts I know (not 100& but based on what I have been told by family inc my mother & the records for the address - we defently know is right)...

David Long - 28/05.08
Mother - Ivy L Long Name:
Father - Frederick W Long

lived at flat 58 Rotherhithe Old Road, Southwark, se16 2qd

my aunt suggests Ivy died in 1987 (When I was 3yrs) however records suggest 1994 which would make me 9/10yrs old.

David was a QPR fan, blonde hair aged roughly 21 when I was born in 1984

Gemma Report 23 Apr 2008 19:42

to be honest its all very confusing for me, i dont really know how to look for any siblings of Ivy or fred, i dont think any records would show that unless I had their parents death/birth cert

Gemma

Gemma Report 23 Apr 2008 19:40

because my aunt found looked through records of who lived at 58rotherhithe old rd in 1984 and their names came up, with David Long as their child.

Just thinking aloud here, Ivy must have been 42 when she had David, but I think you said there were no other siblings.

Wondering if either Ivy or Fred had been married before?

Also it might be worth working sideways if you know what I mean.

For example, trying to find any possible brothers/sisters of Fred & Ivy, as David might have aunts, uncles and cousins out there who know of his whereabouts.

As I said, just thinking aloud here.

Selena

PS I was drawn to this thread as I have an ancestor Mary Long (1850's) who came from West Ham. She married into the New family in Greenwich. Mary's daughter Amy married and lived in Rotherhithe. So I was drawn to the Long and Rotherhithe connection.

Sorry that was so long winded.

Sorry if I sound a bit thick but how do you know her birth date if you don't know her maiden name?

Do you have a rough year that Fred Long was born?

Am I right in thinking Ivy's maiden name was Key?

ivy passed in 1987 according to the records, however the ivy long that was found on here died in 1994???!!

Gemma

Gemma Report 23 Apr 2008 18:33

he might have remarried but my aunt went to the local library and found out that they moved in 1987 from the above address.. thats why I am not sure about Frederick with the "Linda" because this means i have the wrong info and now i am just as baffled.

my aunt went to the address in jan this year and spoke to the current occupants and then saw an old man who knew my dad but had no forwarding address... sorry i didnt mention this before, it slipped my mind

thanks

Sheila

When did Ivy pass on then, as I said before I still have Frederick with a Linda there in 2005, wonder if he could have remarried. ??

Don't know why you didn't say before that you had contacted the people at or near the address. Perhaps you only asked the old neighbour about David and not Frederick - don't think you knew his name at the time. Whos is Linda who someone found living at the same address? Was her surname Long?

Hi Gemma,

I'm sorry to hear that you are having problems locating your father but I don't give up because I traced my father one year ago and I found him by the electoral register and I found out that he had died 5 years before I tried to find him which was disappointing but I now know my paternal grandmother, aunts, uncles and cousins!

Firstly, have you tried this website here? http://www.look4them.org.uk/salvation-army.html

They are very good in locating missing people aslong as you are over 18 they will try to find your father for you! It is free and it does say their are certain conditions in which they don't perform searches for e.g. adoption and where the birth of a child is outside of marriage but it said they usually don't become involved but maybe you could just explain he is definately your father as they were going to help me out and my father isn't on mine either but by then I had found his death certs xx
