Hi David that was why I made the connection but I don't think it's correct theres a big age difference between birth.

I'm hoping that someone more experienced will come and have a look.

David Report 6 Jun 2008 20:50

Mind you... Tailors Apprentice....Edward Kitching did go on to be a manager in a cotton importing firm...

David Report 6 Jun 2008 20:31

Yes, I ended up l;ooking at someone in Kendal, but I couldn't remember how I got there and can't see the link anymore. trouble is, with just a name...
There needs to be something that links an Edward Kitching born in the 1870's with an Edward Richard Kitching born in 1904. I just don't know how to do that and I've spent the whole afternoon trying.

David Report 6 Jun 2008 17:18

Hi again.
Got the marriage certificate for my Grandfather, Edward Richard Kitching. But I can find no trace [anywhere] of his birth certificate. The Marriage cert states that his father was also called Edward Kitching and that he was a Manager in a cotton importters, but that at the time of Grandfathers marriage, he was dead. So there's apparently no way that I can go further back is there? There are dozens of Edward Kitchings and I have no idea how old he was when he died, where he died, who he married or anything else. The 'other' search engine on deaths doesn't work..just keeps searching on 'person' instead of name. Can anyone help?

If the child was baptized, then it is possible that the parish baptismal register might contain some details of the father, even post 1837.

David have sent you a PM re: Ancestry

David

David Report 28 May 2008 16:22

Well many thanks for your help. I'll come back if the marriage certificate is less than revealing...

David most people have illegitimate people on their tree it just means that you can only follow the maternal line. I've only been doing my family tree for just over a week so i'm sure that their are people on here with greater knowledge than me.

David

David Report 28 May 2008 16:12

I've got another one for you. How do you trace a history of someone you know was born outside of marriage and whose fathers name doesn't appear on the birth certificate [or marriage], just her mothers?

Debbie

Debbie Report 28 May 2008 16:10

David, you can order this cert online at the GRO website. they cost £7.00.

David

David Report 28 May 2008 16:07
