Mary,

It is possible 'John' was not his usual first name? In which case the net is a little bigger than you expect!!

Still looking...

Hi Tracey

Sorry for not staying around to answer any queries, my son is over from Spain and is going back later today so I've been spending time with him.

No, I don't think that is my Henry. I'm pretty sure I have found a marriage for that particular Henry :-((
There is another in 1871 noted on the census as "wife's son" which I thought was him as the occupation matched - but when I worked back his mother Alice had been married to a Richard Rose, so that is another one to discount :-(((

This guy is more elusive than the scarlet pimpernel lol

Hi Tracey

I've got a good one for you.....it will keep you busy for today, tomorrow and probably several days after that LOL. I've been searching for this gg grandfather for over 4 years now.

Henry Rose married in 1879 - gives his age as 24 on the cert (same as wife), his occupation as "fitter" and father as John Rose glass maker deceased. Witnesses are wife's family so no clues there :-(( I have him on the 1881 and all following census as an iron moulder and pob as West Bromwich. I just cannot find this guy anywhere before his marriage in 1879 - can you help please?

Thanks

Mary

Hi Julie

Given their ages in 1871, i would say it's highly unlikely they would have had older children who would have already left home....The only additional children you may find are those that may have died. I have so far not managed to find them in 1861...still looking tho !!

Thanks Tracey
I'm inclined to think that you (and everyone else who's had a go at this on) are right.
INIS has had a look but no luck, I even went to Dublin myself.
Think it might be the end of the line with the Basebe/Browns, at least until some more Irish records come on line.
Thanks again - Pam

I would have to say i agree with the concensus of opion on your own thread regarding the first marriage... Either Samuel met and married Jane in Ireland and then brought her here or they stated they were married when indeed they were not....Happens more then we realise!!

I would suggest you drop onto INIS's (excellent Irish resource) thread and see what can be found from the Irish point of view...

Sorry i couldn;t be of more help...

I suggest you open the pimms and sit in the garden!!

BUT, before you do, I have a wierd one for you. My g grandfather was called Albert Batt he was born in hindley lancs, His father, as far as we know was Walter John Batt, however, after years of searching I found them in Hindley, and earier in Hampshire under the name of Braxton/Brackstone. On sending for the marriage cert of Walter John Brackstone he says his father was called John (deceased).

My problem is I cant find any record of him before his marriage as Walter Braxton, however I can find several records which would fit under the name of Walter Batt! (He married Emma Appleton in Basingstoke in 1869 by the way).

Was he born Walter John Batt or Walter John Braxton/Brackstone?

Maybe having the Pimms prior to reading this may have helped!

Thanks anyway!

Good Morning Tracey
Here's one that's been giving me severe headaches for quite some time.

I'm looking for the marriage of my great great grandfather Samuel Basebe born c1835 in the Shoreditch area of London to a Jane Brown(e) born c1835 in Dublin.

I have Samuel's baptism from IGI at St Leonards, Shoreditch and I have him on every census from 1841 to 1901 variously transcribed as Ishmael Basebe, Samuel Basile,Bassebe, Bailie and Basche.

I have his subsequent marriages in 1876 to Alice Ayer and in 1884 to Hannah Symons.

I have their daughter Rosina's birth certificate (1859 Chelsea) which gave me Jane's maiden name.

There is a possible Jane Brown in 1841 living with James and Susannah Hedderley in Chelsea listed as a niece. Susannah maiden name was Saunders and she too was from Ireland.

Without that marriage certificate I cannot get any further back with Jane's family - and Brown's in Ireland are not exactly rare!

Good Luck

Pam

Births Sep 1901
Bird John William Bromley 2a 480
Bird Joseph Edward Bromley 2a 480

In theory multiple births are indicated by several factors, Firstly the vol and page numbers, they are usually on the same page or sequential pages (if one entry is at the bottom of the page and the next at the top of the other) The second highly giving point is that the time will be on the birth certs, this is the main indicating factor to multiple births.

Everyone has their own cert, so they will not appear on the same certififcate but each have their own, and should have their time of birth written. You will only need to order both certs if you need both!

As for your missing person, i'll try and find him now for you...

Have you got a birth cert from the children of James to establish the mothers name? If this corresponds to the marriage cert then i would suggest you need the other James's birth cert.

Well JJ

My first instinct would be you either have the wrng cert somewhere or that between his birth and his marriage his mother has remarried and it's his step father who is named on the marriage cert....

...let me see what i can find....

Nerine,

French records are a little left of centre for me.. but i'm def gonna give it a go !!
