Hi Margaret

Can you find a marriage for Samuel BAILEY and Frances ?

In 1791 he was removed from St Giles Reading (where he had lived for 17 years !) to Bramley in Hampshire with wife Frances and daughter Sarah aged 8.
He was 56

Prior to going to Reading he was employed as a gardener at Woodcote Oxfordshire and was dismissed because he married Frances

So the marriage could be anytime after 1755 ish

Joseph Lester baptised 25/11/1819 Ipsden of Scotts Common married 24/12/1843 Ann Willis a full age spinster of Stoke Row daughter of James a labourer.
Joseph was full age bachelor labourer son of thomas a labourer of Stoke Row witnesses David Oving and Sarah Oving, these were nearly illegible, so may be incorrect.
Stoke Row parish was the district church to Ipsden til 1849 when the Ecclestiastical Parish was created.

Thomas and Catherine had children baptised in Ipsden, but also there are children of theirs on the 1841 census that have not been baptised in Ipsden, so I cannot give baptismal dates for them, here follow the children
Joseph baptised 25/11/1819 Ipsden, of Scotts Common
Thomas born circa 1836 aged 15 yrs on the 1841 census in Oxfordshire
Mary aged 14 yrs on the 1841 census born Ox.
Betsey probably Elizabeth baptised 10/10/1829 aged 12 yrs on 1841 census of Scotts Common
Edward baptised 20/6/1830 Ipsden of Stoke Row, the baptismal record says he is the son of Edward and Catherine, but this is an error I expect as there are no other entries for an Edward and Catherine, also he appears aged 10 yrs on the 1841 census with the other children of Thomas and Catherine

NINA continued
Thomas Lester baptised 4/12/1791 in Clifton Hampden married an Irishwoman named Catherine born c 1805. Thomas died either in 1853 or 1855 in Henley Reg District.
On Ancestry there is an entry that says that Catherine was surnamed Munton, but there is no marriage entry to tell where the information came from. I have emailed the tree owner for more information and will let you know the outcome.
Catherine survived her husband, and living in Ipsden became, on the 1861 census a Carrier, using a donkey and cart and was aged 58 yrs, she had their daughter Eliza living with her named as Eliza Allaway who had her own children with her Thomas 2 yrs and Rosannah 6 months, both born in Ipsden. There was another grandson living with them, but sorry did not note his name down.

NINA continued, so it is up to you, I cannot find a baptism in Lower Winchendon on the Latter Day Saints site for Joseph Lester, Lister or Leaster with a father Thomas and mother Sarah,. although there is a marriage for a Thomas Lister to Sarah Eagles 11/10/1757 Lower Winchendon which might be the correct parents for Joseph Lister born c 1764 as I said, it is up to you.

Margaret

Margaret Report 9 Aug 2010 13:20

NINA continued
Joseph Lister born c 1764 and was buried in Clifton Hampdon in Oxfordshire aged 79 yrs 27/2/1843 as Joseph Lester.
He had a wife Elizabeth who was buried in Clifton Hamptdon 9/5/1833 aged 67 yrs.
On Ancestry you will find trees with the following information on them
Joseph Lister married 5/4/1787 Lower Winchendon to Elizabeth Faulkner, you will also see on the trees that he was baptised in Lower Winchendon son of James and Mary.
I am not satisfied that this is the case. as He names his first children Anna in 1788, then Sarah 1790, then Thomas 1791, then James 1794 Mary 1795 and so on.
mostly people named their first son after their father, then their mother, then father in law, then mother in law depending on which sex the children were.

witnesses barely legible, David Oving, Sarah Oving. but don't rely on it.
Stoke Row parish was district church to Ipsden until 1849 when Ecclestiastical Parish created.

Hello Margaret
I am looking for Joseph Lester's marriage partner in O-D 1843 Henley. He was b 1821 in Ipsden and as there is only I female name on the record I have seen and her name is Hannah Newell, I assumed(!) that this was Joseph's wife as her name is Ann on a later census. Shirely Goodridge tells me that you helped with the other man on that record named King and that Hannah Newell is married to him. Is there any way that you can help me find Joseph's wife please? I would be most grateful and I am willing to help with any Notts queries if you have interests there. This is the first time I have used the Community help tab so hope I am doing this right! Nina

SANDRA Thomas Brown married in Tetsworth Elizabeth Cooper 15/10/1781, witnesses illegible.
William 21/12/1781 baptised Tetsworth
Richard 25/2/1787 parents poor
John 14/9/1794 Poor
Thomas 17/4/1796 Poor
James 9/12/1798
Sarah 13/6/1802
The Stamp Duty on BMD's commenced end 1783, so some children may not have been baptised, or some of them may have been baptised later on, when as poor people they were baptised free of charge.

REDBUTLER continued
there is a burial which is more probably the one of John Tustin husband of Mary. in Long Combe 29/5/1848 aged 71 yrs, so born c 1777 , there is a baptism of John Tustin 10/3/1777 Long Combe son of Richard and Jane. who had married in Ducklington 7/12/1772, Richard was of Long Combe.
I cannot find a remarriage for John Tustin after the death of his wife and some of his children, Thomas Tustin goes on to be a witness to a marriage in later years.

22/11/1807 Mary daughter of John and Mary
25/6/1809 Jane daughter John and Ann, this is the only entry for an Ann, so probably it should read Mary.No burial for a Mary either side of this date, no burial for an Ann.

17/1/1813 John son of John and Mary buried 13/2/1815 aged 2 yrs
