Thanks sorry if I didn't quite understand.

So now it looks like this cert is the real one. Gosh! I wonder if my grandad also had a child with somebody else while he was married. Makes you think. Or maybe it was his sisters child. (same surnames)

Thanks... Thanks... Thank you for your help.

cannot find a marriage for Williams/Johnson

perhaps William Williams wanted to rear the child and the mother put his name on the birth certificate so that he could??

Yes that is correct the mother and the daughter(my Mum) were both Louisa Williams. the mother maiden name was Johnson. It is a written certificate although not the original.

I think we have are wires crossed. mum was born 10th Sept 1903.

I am not sure whether adoptions where carried out before then but the GRO advised me that they never kept records on adoption before 1927.

thank again

Thanks for your help.

Date of birth on Cert 10th Sept 1903.

The parent names are William Williams (who was also the name of the man who brought her up) The mothers name on Cert. is Louisa Williams. This completely confused me me because the William Williams we knew as our grandad, his wife was called Mary Williams. Just another headache

Hi,

I am certainly not an expert on this but have you looked at the GRO reference for this cert to see if there is a cross reference (which often happens with later adoptions)??

I have a birth certificate of my Mothers. She was adopted and I am not sure whether it is her Original cert or Adop cert. Have been informed by The General Reg Office that they only kept Adoption certs from 1927 and therefore couldn't say which one it was. Could anyone suggest how I can find out. There is confusion regarding the names of parents of the cert.
