Your Bowman marriage is the only Critcher event in Darlington / Durham in the GRO as so far transcribed at FreeBMD (plus Alma of course).

Either he came from away, or he was no Critcher.

Oh, but duh on my 1911 search: Durham isn't in yet.

My household help has gone to visit his cranky mother and hospitalized father in another town, so I'm here to entertain yours. ;)

Right, we have *one* Critcher in the censuses in Yorkshire or Durham.

Name: Frances Annie Critcher
Age: 28
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1873
Relation: Officer (hospital nurse)
Gender: Female
Where born: Wrexham, Denbighshire, Wales

Civil Parish: Brightside Bierlow
County/Island: Yorkshire
Registration district: Sheffield
ED, institution, or vessel: Workhouse

Except -- I'm going to read that as Pritchard, I think. Hard to say about the first letter, but it ends in a "d". So that gives us nothing.

Oh well! South African, Australian, whatever. I'll buy South African. ;)

But that incoming one looks like maybe this one:

Births Jun 1906
Critcher Frederick Cyril G Reading 2c 396

... who doesn't seem to be on the 1911 ...

LiverBird1

LiverBird1 Report 24 Feb 2009 00:10

EvieBeavie

EvieBeavie Report 24 Feb 2009 00:04

Who can check incoming passenger lists?

38599/1890
CRITCHER FREDERICK T
father FREDERICK O L
mother JANE
district WOONONA

That will be in NSW.

6548/1908
CRITCHER FREDERICK T
bride BUCHANAN BEATRICE A
district WOONONA

Can't check for births after 1908.
There are no Critcher deaths in NSW to 1978 with father Frederick and mother Beatrice, i.e. children of that marriage.

21959/1951 death
CRITCHER FREDERICK THOMAS
father FREDERICK OSWALD LISTER
mother JANE
district MAITLAND

19179/1952 death
CRITCHER BEATRICE ANNE
father RICHARD
mother MARGARET
district SUTHERLAND

Slightly odd that they died a year apart in different districts.

That Frederick is in a tree at Ancestry, but showing no children.

Any chance he slipped into England and back out again?

She says, grasping at straws.

I vote we wait for the Critcher-Bowman and Bowman/Critcher-Pears marriage certificates.

FannyByGaslight

FannyByGaslight Report 24 Feb 2009 00:00

BoroGirl

BoroGirl Report 23 Feb 2009 23:57

Alma Pears is john Lawrence Pears's sister

BoroGirl

BoroGirl Report 23 Feb 2009 23:52

I know hes the product of John Lawrence Pears and Dorothy Rea cos that's what his birth cert says .
and his new mum told me, and Alma told me before she died in 1996 but she did'nt tell me about the other daughter she had adopted before she married Raymond Spencer

EvieBeavie

EvieBeavie Report 23 Feb 2009 23:51

Not to pry, but just to help us get a handle on this if possible.

Your husband's parent was a child of the Pears marriage to Bowman/Critcher?

A half-sibling of Alma? (if Alma's father was indeed Critcher)

LiverBird1

LiverBird1 Report 23 Feb 2009 23:50

Yes that's the birth I pm'd BG, I thought father may be Pears, I'm getting very nosey again I am very intrigued!!

no deaths for 1933 doing 1932 now.

Cass :-))

so do you really think
or know
that shes his aunt?

EvieBeavie

EvieBeavie Report 23 Feb 2009 23:46

Alma Critcher was born the same quarter that Doris Bowman Critcher married Pears.

Perhaps Critcher wasn't really her father.
