1911 has four, all still in the London area.

CRITCHER ARTHUR FREDERICK M 1904 7 Shoreditch London
CRITCHER FREDERICK M 1887 24 Brentford Middlesex
CRITCHER FREDERICK ALFRED M 1910 1 Brentford Middlesex
CRITCHER WILLIAM FREDERICK M 1874 37 Shoreditch London

Only that first one is the rightish age, really.

well i would be consumed with curiosity and have to get it ,
to see who the parents are
but thats me

BoroGirl

BoroGirl Report 23 Feb 2009 23:36

this is what is bugging me

Name: Alma Critcher
Mother's Maiden Surname: Bowman
Date of Registration: Apr May Jun 1935
Registration district: Darlington
Registration county: Durham
Volume Number: 10a
Page Number: 42

this is the lady that brought my hubby up
she is hubbys fathers sister, so really his aunt

FannyByGaslight

FannyByGaslight Report 23 Feb 2009 23:34

i have seen marriages recorded with maiden and married names and even a male person recorded with 2 poss names
and got that and it said
chapman known as lambe on it and no fathers name
he was illigit and reg with a ficticious father of john lambe
but his mothers name was chapman so he used both!

edit{{ and i couldnt find any cricher births neiver!!

EvieBeavie

EvieBeavie Report 23 Feb 2009 23:32

CRICHER deaths 1931:

None.

It isn't actually a name, that was just a mistake in the marriage entry.

EvieBeavie

EvieBeavie Report 23 Feb 2009 23:30

Okay, you posted:

DORIS A BOWMAN
DARLINGTON
JUN Q 1935
VOL: 10A
PG: 93
SPOUSE: WILLIAM ? PEARS ?<<<<<<<<<<<<<is very blurred

On William's page it says Cricher or Bowman

and there is also:

CRITCHER, Doris A.
spouse Pears
Darlington 10a 93

So for some reason it was recorded under both her names.

Perhaps Frederick was a bigamist and the first marriage was void ...

LiverBird1

LiverBird1 Report 23 Feb 2009 23:29

Only looked for deaths under CRITCHER.

I'll look for CRICHER now doing 1934, 1935

Cassandra - back on page 1 you said

"On William's page it says Cricher or Bowman"

Should that have read Critcher?

How common was it for a widow's birth surname to be recorded in the GRO when she remarried?

EvieBeavie

EvieBeavie Report 23 Feb 2009 23:23

You're right, Cass alread did them! Stop now!

LiverBird1
