Battenburg Report 17 May 2009 21:00

Hi Kelly

We know census information isnt always correct. Is it possible he wasnt born in Peckham. Or how likely is it he was adopted ( unofficial) so was registered with a different name.
Is it possible to look for his baptism?
Sorry cant think of anything else to help.
I have a frustrating grandmother who is on the census in 1891 as nursechild. In 1901 lodger with the same family.

I have her birth and marriage cert.Same father and occupation. Mother claiming to be married.

No sign of parents or marriage or deaths. So Im stuck on them

The informant on the death cert E King. Do you think he married for a third time?
Very strange unless Lydia had a middle name

Just another avenue. Do you think there will be a death notice in the local paper?.
Are you able to get to the library to have a look?

Kelly

Kelly Report 9 May 2009 20:52

right have the cert, informant E KING widow of deceased, st hilliers biggin hill
deid farnborough hosp thirteenth october 1953
issued thirteenth october 1953,

E king was his first wife and died

his second wife was Lydia king they married in 1920 surley it would be her name and not his dead wife

OK....had a quick 'scan'.....I see that you have the marriage cert...in fact, I'm beginning to recall some of this now..............

One point which may have already been made, is that the name of a father on a marriage cert is no proof of his identity.......especially if he is 'deceased'. Illegitimacy was a stigma in those days, and fathers were often dreamed up for the sake of propriety......

Kelly

Kelly Report 9 May 2009 20:39

hi Ricochet,
yes this is the right one, and i wouldnt dream of saying that, you have helped me so many times, and i know what ever you say is ment with good intentions,
sometimes things do get me down, but i am truly grateful for your help and advise
my regards as ever

I haven't read all the postings on this thread, as there are so many different 'strands', it would only compound the confusion........

Do you have any info about Walter's marriage?
The cert...for example?

If so, tell us all the info from it.............

Elizabethofseasons Report 9 May 2009 20:33

Dear Kelly

Please try once more when you are less tired.

Carrying out researching is time consuming, fustrating and
confusing. But it brings its rewards.

When you have the time, organise your information.
Separate the definitely know, then another pile not sure.

What you are looking for, and then what you have found.

Read through it carefully and make notes.
If possible get a friend to help as a fresh look on this could make all the difference.

Maybe things will start to click into place.

It seems to me there were a few admin errors made by the authorities.
Just a tiny mistake on certificates can mess up research.

Census material is often misleading and the originals need to be looked at carefully.

Take care of yourself.
Best wishes to your mum.

Ricochet Report 9 May 2009 20:30

Is this the death for which you have purchased the cert?

KING, Walter, Age 60
OND 1953, Bromley, 5b/146

Would you get the cert, and look at it for me............

Who does it say was the informant? And what relation, if any, was he/she to Walter?

What was the date on which the cert was issued?

Ricochet

Ricochet Report 9 May 2009 20:26

I think you are perhaps misunderstanding the gist of the message from raindrops.....it is clearly sent with the best of intentions.

You are getting in a wee bit of a tizz about all this.....so just give yourself a breather.......

And I'm not being patronising,either..........

Hi Kelly,

This family certainly are causing you a lot of problems aren't they, always changing their names.

You said you have Walter's mother's maiden name from a contact.

Do they have his birth cert or parents marriage cert?

Battenburg Report 9 May 2009 14:31

Kelly.
Date of birth were not put on death certs till 1969. Im sorry though you havnt been able to find his

Kelly

Kelly Report 9 May 2009 08:16

well the certificate is wrong and the gro office appoloigised for it ,and on my mum's, mum's death certificate it was dated at the top 1970 29th feb, yet she died on the 29th feb 1972 so there is another one which was dated 2 years before she died, alice elizabeth king nee pike, my gt nan's first death cert was in my nans name alice king instead of mary pike, my nan was horrified,
so yes it is possible for them to make a mistake ?
if i wasent so annoyed i might think it was funny to, this man is just a nightmare
he married under walter king had 3 children all with edgar walter king on there birth cert,
remarried under walter king 1920, then had another child fred fathers name walter king, then died under walter king ????????why on earth would you pay for a head stone alot of money in 1953 only for it to be wrong, surley you would make them put it right,

Ricochet Report 8 May 2009 22:04

A death cert cannot be dated earlier than the date of death....it is just not possible.
