I recollect this has been posted before on the thread but lost in time somewhere:

http://www.gov.ns.ca/nsarm/virtual/halifax/archives.asp?ID=87&Page=87&Nav=true

The wedding of Evelyn GF's brother William Henry Willoughby Goddard Fenwick.
( think it was his second marriage & first wife died 1910).

The Canada marriage record is on Ancestry but I don't have worldwide access to get all the details.

Wonder if one of the ladies present is Evelyn GF? She would be about 37 ish.

Maybe...........

......... who did what, where and when???? ;-)

wisechild

wisechild Report 21 Nov 2012 08:20

Cynthia.
As it´s her father we´re trying to find, I would think whodunnit would be quite appropriate.

Cynthia

Cynthia Report 21 Nov 2012 07:53

I guess there must have been something that your mother wasn't happy about mentioning Evelyn - especially if she was a 'reserved' lady.

Book? Hmmm ........ not quite a 'whodunnit' - more of a 'whoisit' :-D

Must get her ladyship back to check the details found the other day. She will have the usual excuse of being busy etc.etc. yawn.........

Evelyn? Please take the tissues with you - we can't have you sniffing and dripping all over the place.......sheeeeesh. ;-)

Gosh there is almost a book here isn,t there, just wonder what kind of ending we are going to find. It has always been a puzzle to me , why did Diane NEVER mention her mother?
I am going to venture out today to do some food shopping, must remember to take lots of tissues.
Love to all

Thanks Evelyn.
I know the info is on one of the posts, but didn´t have time to go through them all to find it.
Had you thought of turning the thread into a book?

Evelyn

Evelyn Report 19 Nov 2012 16:06

Evelyn G F was my godmother, I was named after her XXX

wisechild

wisechild Report 19 Nov 2012 14:52

Have I got this right?
Evelyn Goddard Fenwick was Diane´s godmother, not Evelyns.
If so, doesn´t that suggest that Diane was born in England, unless G-F was also in India?

Cynthia

Cynthia Report 19 Nov 2012 14:02

That gap looks like the space in my head which appears whenever Diane is mentioned :-D :-D :-D :-D

Hello Evelyn, sorry you're feeling grotty and hope you pick up again soon. Also sorry about the Jersey/Guernsey thing......tuts.......must do better ;-)

My contact on FB hasn't had any luck so far unfortunately. Someone in the family knew that Evelyn G-F had been a Godmother to somebody but didn't know anything about it. He is checking with an older cousin and getting back to me.

Will get FBG to check the other stuff.............'bout time she did summat!!

Maybe that indicates that her mother had already died if she said she was with her father at Fort George.
Wonder if she was sent to Stornoway when her father was sent off to fight at the start of WW1. That would have made her about 6 or 7.
Would have thought she would have said she was with her Parents rather than just her father.
Maybe her mother wasn´t Scottish & we are just assuming.

Hello again,
I still feel grotty with this horrible cold.
Quoy I meant that while my mother lived in Stornoway she attended school there, as far as I remember she said she went from Fort George where she was living with her father to live in Stornoway with her Aunt Kate, I wish I could tell you more but I just don't know anything else

Just musing here on choice of words

1st posting

At quite a young age mother was sent to live with an Aunt Kate in Stornoway, Isle of Lewis, sadly I do not know the surname of Aunt Kate but do know that in the same household were cousins Donald and Ishbel. Mother attended school in Stornoway

IN Stornoway
now does that mean she already lived on Lewis

Good to know you´re OK Evelyn even if your forebears are driving us all crazy.
I can´t help feeling that the answer is probably staring us in the face & when it becomes obvious, we will all be saying "of course, why didn´t I think of that". I just can´t believe that someone could be so obscure. Your MUm must have told some real porkies.......or like mine, she invented her own fantasy world with a few truths thrown in for good measure.
Keep smiling.

Hello everyone,
This is the first time I have been able to get on line for several days, don't know if its me or Internet at fault, I have a lousy cold and cough, so am staying close to home.
Have just been reading the thread and you have all been so hard at work, thank you so much.

I wonder if the Goddard Fenwick contact has a photo of Evelyn? I have no idea what she looked like and would love to know. Cynthia I don't live in Jersey, I am in Guernsey, where they filmed Island Hospital, very pretty island, not a lot to do though but that suits me at 80 years of age.
Take care everyone and thank you once again
Love to all
