Viv - I've looked at every Martha in the vicinity in 1911 to see whether there was a Lucy or Louisa living with her, and vice versa, but no dice.

Ditto deaths, marriages ...

EvieBeavie

EvieBeavie Report 13 Apr 2009 19:41

Have we looked at this one?

Births Sep 1908
Atkinson Lucy Lanchester 10a 381

or

Births Mar 1905
Atkinson Louisa Darlington 10a 38

Births Dec 1905
Atkinson Louisa Hartlepool 10a 139

Births Mar 1906
Atkinson Louisa Hartlepool 10a 195

Births Sep 1906
Atkinson Elsie Louise Sunderland 10a 692

Births Dec 1906
Atkinson Louisa Ann S. Shields 10a 923

Births Jun 1910
ATKINSON Louisa Gateshead 10a 1094

Frank could have had a child with his second, er, wife, before she finally got him to marry her, and used the name Atkinson for that purpose.

Now, who wants to track them to the 1911 ...

I must say that since this LucyLou wasn't with the family in 1911, it does sound more likely that she was a child of the first marriage -- or of another woman altogether.

It can and is still done today.
Not much changes.
Except now its easier to get a divorce, so I guess bigamy is not around so much.
Mind you you only hear of the cases that are found out.

Of course if you want to know if it might be the same man you would have to send for that marriage cert as well!!
You need full wallets/purses for this lark I tell you.

Oh - yes, you can do that, open an account so you don't have to give the card details every time, I'm pretty sure. In fact, I think I've used that site to check the details of my credit card when I didn't have it handy, for something else. ;) I dunno, maybe next time you order something you'll get the option?

I think this is it:

http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/Login.asp

It seems you *have* to register now in order to order certificates.

For Sean - once you've registered and logged in, you get the order form, and this is where you say "yes", down at the bottom --

For all events
Is the General Register Office Index known? (Explanation) Yes No
