Russell Report 31 Jan 2010 00:08

Hello Jacqueline,

I am looking for Evelyn Holmes (born 04/07/1896, in Leicestershire) in the 1901 and 1911 census. Her parents were John (aka Harry) (c 1867 - c 1912) a chemist and Jane Augusta Phillips (1869 - 28/09/1946)

Looking for the marriage of James Phillips (1811 - 1850) and Jane (born circa 1824) around 1840-41 in Leicestershire, probably Huntingdon. Failing that the marriage of Jane Clark (born circa 1824) to Joseph Clark around 1850, same location.

Thanks in anticipation
Russell

Hi Jacqueline
Do you have any information on the birth of my grandfather, although I have all the details I can find no actual record:
Walter Hugh Sebire b 3 November 1903 on the Island of Guernsey, he was born to a single mum, Nellie Smith, we have no idea who his father was.
I am waiting for the Priaulx Library to get back to me but I wondered if you might have anything.
Thank you for your time,
Kind regards
Margaret

Jacqueline,
Thank you very much for your help, but now i'm super-confused. The first marriage you have: William Mason and Evelyn Holmes (1917) Vol: 7a
Page: 266. As I have a marriage certificate for this same couple (18/06/1914) Leicester and their first child was born in 1914. I know you can't get any more information without sending off for copies. So do you think it's a simple case that you have found a different couple, with the same names in that same area? Bit odd either way.....

With the second one, thanks again. This one looks great to me as I now know Jane's maiden name and a nice little reference number for me to send off for a copy.

Thanks again
Russell

Hi Jill,

Here is their marriage. You can get a copy of the certificate from gro.gov.uk which will give you both of their father's names

Marriages Jul-Sep 1897
Johnson Florence W. Ham 4a 132
Warner Thomas John West Ham 4a 132

This is the best thing to do as the surnames are quite common and it is easy to make mistakes.
Let me know if I can be of further help
