Find Ancestors

i'm trying to find my great aunts, they were called dorethy and frances gregory, dorethy was born in 1905 and frances in 1909, their parents were william george and frances gregory and in 1911 they are living in edmonton middlesex, now i know that frances snr died in 1918 and william george remarried in 1920, but i would like to know what happened to frances and dorethy after their father remarried, cos until just recently i didn't know they existed, so if anyone has any info on them please let me know many thanks

Could this be a possible marriage for Dorothy????

There were some children possibly from this marriage - if you go to www.freebmd.org.uk, select births, put Soper in the surname box and Gregory in the spouses surname box and then select 1924 as a start date you will see one birth in Greenwich, two in Fulham and one in Marylebone which might be children from this marriage.

I don't want to display the births here as they may still be alive.

Once you have found these births you could then try putting the names into the search trees facility above and see if there any matches. If so, you could send a private message to see if there is a possible link.

i'm afraid that i'm not very good at finding things out, so if you could help me just a little i would be greatful. i tried to look for dorethy's marriage on bmd but couldn't find it, so if you could help me out then i would be very greatful

Go to www.freebmd.org.uk

Click on search and then select marriages.

In the surname box put Gregory and then in the first name box put Dorothy. Select the start date for the search as 1920 (assume you don't have the information I have already given you and that she may have married as early as 16) and then click on Find.

This will bring up a selection of marriages all over the country for ladies called Dorothy Gregory. You will see that in 1924 there is a marriage for a Dorothy I Gregory in Fulham.

If you click onthe number next to the entry (in this case 824) this will bring up the names of the other people registered on the same page. Next to Dorothy's name is the spouse name of Soper and on the same page is William Soper.

If you then go back to the home page for freebmd and select births and fill in the information I gave in the thread that should bring up the births.

i'm still having trouble locating a marriage for dorethy, but that's proberly looking in the wrong place. is it possible you could find out when she died, and where she died cos then i might be able to find where she is buried, assumming she was buried many thanks

The possible marriage registration for Dorothy is given below - possibly to a William Soper.

I will PM you with the births from that marriage - just in case they're yours.

I have checked for a death for a Dorothy Soper after 1984 and there's no likely candidates so she possibly died before that. I'm afraid it would mean trawling through the indexes quarter by quarter from when her last child was born - a mammoth task I'm afraid. And that's assuming she didn't marry again if her husband died.

You could always try a 14 day trial of Ancestry to check the indexes yourself.

i've put the sopers in my tree and only got tree matches for the sons, so i might try and find out when dorethy died and also when her husband died, so many thanks for all your help
